I have an event there next month. Either staying 1 or two days. Hotels, resturants, bars, etc.

Where is the event? That will determine the hotel, restaurants, bars.

Though I would stay downtown. That's where all the action is. Even if the event is in the burbs.

Jefferson convention center. The hotel connected is already booked out.

Both? There's a Sheraton and a Westin. The Sheraton is pretty old and dated though.

The Tutwiler isn't very far. Redmont Hotel is close as well. Redmont just went through a massive renovation and has a pretty cool rooftop bar.

A little further away there's a Doubetree. It's actually closer to the bar districts than the others. Lakeview, Avondale, and 5 Points South are the main bar districts, but there are bars all over downtown. I'd avoid 5 Points and hit Avondale or Lakeview.

Westin is a good bit pricier than the Sheraton but it's much nicer. There are several close that would work fine. I agree with the previous poster about where to hang out. I prefer Avondale to Lakeview though personally. I would also recommend Good People's brewery.

Birmingham is split north side and southside. You'll be staying on the north side just for reference.

Top bars IMO (on the south side)

- Any of the 4 breweries
- Parkside
- 41st St Pub
- The Brown Derby

Lakeview is for current and washed up frat douches (I used to be one, I know) but Sidebar has some good weekday happy hour specials.

If you're a craft beer fan check out The J Clyde. It's a non-chain better and cheaper version of world of beer.

If you're out late and want a drink and some good food hit up Marty's. Kind of a dive but you can't go wrong with the patty melt.

Other southside food options:
Melt
The hot box (located in backyard of parkside)
The garage cafe
Rojo
Al's
The Sitar if you're into indian food
Wasabi Juan's

As far as where you're staying on the north side of town I recommend:

Todd English and mugshots have good food and decent happy hour specials and you can walk there from your hotel.

Pale Eddies
Rouge Tavern
The Collins Bar
Carrigans - food and drinks
El Barrio has great food and drinks
Bamboo - Asian food. Really good.

If you love BBQ, you have to go to Saw's. There's a few of them around town, but Saw's Soul Kitchen is the only one I've been to and it's right next to Avondale Brewery.

Yeah don't let anyone take you to Dreamland or Full Moon for BBQ.

Saw's and Miss Myra's are the only places to go for BBQ in Birmingham, and Miss Myra's is out of the way from downtown.
