Louisiana used to have terrible roads. I assume they still do.

I like Tennessee roads. Never have any trouble driving from Tuscaloosa to Maryville TN. Nice ride through Chattanooga and a lot of scenic views. The ramps to get back into the interstate in Maryville is nicely designed.

Knoxville has almost finished their road construction after 30 years

Not to be mean, but when I drive from PA to AL, it is instantly noticeable when you hit South Carolina.
I get gas there, but damn those roads are bad.

I-20 through Jackson, MS is probably the worst stretch of interstate I have driven on and I drive through about 11 states yearly for work.

All of Alabama's major roads are fairly well up kept. I'd say the same goes for Georgia and Florida as well. Arkansas hasn't been noticeable for me.
Louisiana is abysmal and same can be said for most of the major highways in Mississippi. I-20 in Mississippi is the worst road I've ever driven. I can't speak for South Carolina because I never have a reason to drive through that state.
The problem with Tennessee and Nashville specifically is it's growing at a faster rate than infrastructure can keep up with

Texas has the only decent roads in the entire US as compared to everywhere else their speed limits are a little bit better (75-85 as compared to fricking 65 or 70 on a straight line road).
ETA: 75-85 is still way too slow so all states have shitty roads IMO

I second Louisiana as at least top 2. I once wrote the state about the roads and cited examples of states whose examples they should follow. In the letter I stated that even with your eyes closed, you could tell when you crossed the state line coming back into Louisiana because of the teeth and car rattling and bouncing (in a nutshell).
In the defensive reply, the head of that department said that you could not tell when crossing state lines because the first two miles into Louisiana from any direction were as smooth as any in the country. The first two miles. Even that certainly doesn't hold true today.

For the most part I agree. But there are some rough sections between Birmingham and Chattanooga on I59 and Birmingham and Atlanta on I20. There's also a really rough 20 mile stretch on I20/59 west of Tuscaloosa. MS interstates and highways were awful when I first moved here in 01. Now the only terrible section I've driven recently is I20 around Jackson.

Texas's highway exit system blows
I swear, it was all designed by a blind, direction challenged, retarded monkey.
The good news though..somebody got their hands on billions of taxpayer dollars, for building all of those useless overpasses and ramps.
The answer to the OP: Arkansas has the worst roads.

Count my vote for S.C.
They are truly awful.

It mostly depends on the quality of the dirt as to whether roads are poor or not. This depends on the region. Clay soil is the worst and roads have to be rehabbed more often where it occurs. Rocky or sandy soil, not as often.

I'm the one who made the previous thread. It was mainly about i95 being a hellhole.

I nominate North Dakota.
