Actually no, they try and come take your shite, if you have a deterrent or are a man and meet them at the door they are generally not successful, provided you don't puss out and actually pull the trigger.

What's the use of owning a handgun if you are afraid to use it. Read the after actions of the USMC Beirut Barracks bombing, and you'll learn that some people will try to call your bluff. Thus "you flaunt it you must be willing & capable to use it". If I pull there will be 3 shots...two the chest and one between the running lights, then acquire my next target.

What good is your handgun and marksmanship when you get capped in the head from behind so the perp can take whatever might be of value from your lifeless body?

Regarding home entry, not every criminal is going to ring the doorbell. They might just set your house on fire at 3am and murder your family as you run out of the house in your PJ's, then run in and ransack as much as they can before your house burns to the ground.

It is call situational awareness. Let's just say this isn't gonna happen unless you are a former Mossad agents (and I despise them) or CIA covert service

Where do you live where this is even feasible? My gated community with 24 hour security would likely deter most common thieves. Anyone else would stick out like a sore thumb and would get reported by the retired couple across the street in no time at all. Love them to death, they tell me everything that is going on to include when my kids sneak out.

I have no issue shooting anyone who threatens my home or those close to me, there are many however who don't have the stones to do it. BTW a handgun is my last choice when defending my home I prefer shotguns with no plugs.

OK.

Instead of getting down into the nitty gritty of endless situation after sitation, let me sum it up with this:

I would rather 0.3% of my federal and state taxes go to handouts to people that would otherwise be coming after me to rob me. The 0.3% extra on my salary isn't enough for me to build a perimeter around my house, or move to a gated community, or put my family through ongoing marksmanship training and situational awareness training.

At a distance with some open space (street) I would agree with you but in a CQB situation a standard shotgun is way too long. Plus if you aren't using slugs you need to really think about collateral damage. With a handgun in CQB I am dead on balls accurate (yes that is a technical term) and if I am doing my job there will be some rifles/carbines laying around. Best bet, based off my personal experience, in CQB is an MP-5....just don't have access to one anymore.

Oh if I get to use my whole arsenal then there are a couple of Israeli made pieces that will do exactly what I want in close quarters. I still prefer a shotgun simply for ease ie: point and pull trigger but yeah it's not my first choice. One of those tuned Uzis is.
