Thanks Obama.

quote:

After the raid on Jan. 8 in the city of Los Mochis that killed five of his men and wounded one Mexican marine, officials found a number of weapons inside the house where Guzman was staying, including the rifle, officials said.

When agents from the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives checked serial numbers of the eight weapons found in his possession, they found one of the two .50-caliber weapons traced back to the ATF program, sources said.

quote:

The Fast and Furious operation involved federal agents allowing criminals to buy guns with the intention of tracking them.

Instead, agents from the ATF lost track of 1,400 of the 2,000 guns involved in the sting operation.

The operation allowed criminals to buy guns in Phoenix-area shops with the intention of tracking them once they made their way into Mexico.

The operation became a major distraction for the Obama administration as Republicans in Congress conducted a series of inquiries into how the Justice Department allowed such an operation to happen.

Former Attorney General Eric Holder was held in contempt after he refused to divulge documents for a congressional investigation into the matter.

This is the third time a weapon from the Fast and Furious program has been found at a high-profile Mexican crime scene.

whoops.

i don't agree with most of the Obama administration's decisions, but that one was just a stupid idea all around. They were actually less effective than Bush's iteration of this. that takes mind blowing incompetence.

This is one of the indefensible things done by the obama administration. One of the dumbest things ever.

They didn't expect to be caught doing this. Their plan was for them to end up in street crimes, so they could point later and say.. see.. this is why we need more gun control. Look at all these illegal weapons on the streets. But it backfired and the media downplayed it, complicit as they are with this administration.

BOOM. Yet not ONE person paid the price for these crimes.

There was a US Border Agent killed with one of these guns. It's a crime for a firearms dealer to let "guns walk". But not the Federal government, even with blood on their hands.

This is more than wrong.

How can a government be so unaccountable for their own major crimes?

How can the media basically ignore these major crimes while covering for an inept administration?

History should crucify this administration and the liberal media for this one bonehead program.

I'm sick of the "ruling class" having different rules than you and me.

It's not the ATF's fault they're the "special" agency.

True, but let's just include the whole DOJ and then Attorney General Holder.

This started higher up than the ATF. It's a "ruling class" issue.

Only because the leftards could not find a way to deflect it onto someone else or excuse it away or say it was the previous administration's fault ... but Lord knows they tried, like everything else.

So when they didn't have any of those normal options ... they just stayed silent on it and ignored it.

It's paramount to committing murder. An American citizen who did something like this, like they did, would be prosecuted and thrown under the jail, for life.

Just more blatant hypocrisy from the Obama administration.

It is really stunning that they would let the cartels buy a .50 cal gun! I can't believe that level of stupidity. This is escort the moron out the front gate right now stupidity.

I'm really beginning to wonder about some high up US complicity in drug running and the weapons are a payoff to the cartel somebody official is in league with so that said cartel has more firepower to use against rivals. I know, tin foil hat.

The attention span around here borders on toddler level, while indefensible "fast and furious" is just another frick up they got caught at. What scares me more is what is still unknown.

wth does that have to do with this? This is about firearms being sold to criminals, on AMERICAN SOIL. And the subsequent cover up by the CURRENT President and his administration.

Are you really going to... But, but .. Reagan?

I remember it well. I also remember that roughly a dozen members of the Reagan administration were convicted of crimes as a result of the debacle. The Secretary of Defense was even indicted (but not convicted).

The investigations, indictments, and convictions all occurred under Republican administrations. Some of the convictions were overturned at the appeals level and the rest were pardoned by Bush I as he left office but they were investigated and tried.

The over/under for how many Fast and Furious players will be criminally investigated and tried by this administration is currently 0, but the number is expected to move because nobody is taking the over.

A couple of differences there.

1 - We were funding the Contras in an effort to defeat the communist Sandinista rebels.

2 - We facilitated the arms sale (anti-tank Hawk and TOW missiles) to Iran at the time in order to cause problems for Iraq ... and we did it with a mutual agreement from Israel, (arms were transferred via Israel), that it would keep Iran and Iraq busy with one another, thus they would cause fewer problems in the Middle East. And it worked.

3 - Most importantly, it also facilitated the release of seven American hostages that were being held in Lebanon at the time. It was a small price to pay.

4 - The Borland Agreement was vague in terms of outlawing a direct attempt to overthrow the Nicaraguan government, while still offering assistance to the Contras. In fact, it is widely agreed upon these days, that had the Borland Agreement not been signed and wrongly interpreted by the left, we would not be experiencing the issues we are now with many central american governments - drugs and illegals migrating from the region and into Mexico and the U.S.

The two operations, Iran-Contra and the Fast & Furious gunwalking scandals are two entirely different things with entirely different consequences.

One saved many American lives, the other is still costing lives, Americans among them.

I know they were very different SC. I think there's a very valid argument that Iran Contra was a legitimate covert national security operation. I left that out because it cluttered the point I was making - which was that unlike the Reagan administration, the Obama DOJ won't do jack shait to pursue those that broke the law.
