recently during the last year or so I've started a tradition of watching almost all of the older black & white horror films from Hammer & Universal from the days of Boris Karloff, Bela Lugosi, Peter Cushing, Christopher Lee, Vincent Price, Barbara Steele, Lon Chaney, etc, most of those had slow scare scenes but the slowness of them always gave time for more scares my two favorites have been Dracula (1931) starring Bela Lugosi & Bride Of Frankenstein (1935) starring Elsa Lancaster .

one of my favorite scenes is from Bela Lugosi's Dracula

Dracula - I am...Dracula

Renfield - It's really good to see you. I don't know what happened to the drive & my luggage and...well... with all this, I thought I was in the wrong place.

Dracula - I bid you welcome.

"Wolf Howl"

Dracula - Listen to them...children of the night. What music they make!
by this point poor Renfield is shitetting is pants

good shite

has anyone seen an old black and white film titled Night Of The Hunter? not sure if you can call it horror but the scene where the crazy Reverend is driving down the road talking to himself while staring up at the sky is creepy saw the original carnival of souls a few months back too now that's a real F*CKED up movie

I've never remotely got close to puking during a scary movie scene.

WTF?

First time I saw the alien chestburster scene I got sick. I was 9, and I had no idea what was coming. NO Preparation, no warning, NOTHING.

My stepdad had a recorded copy on VHS, and we didn't have cable. I asked if I could watch it and he must have wanted to frick with me because he fixed spaghetti for dinner, which I ate while watching it by myself in the living room.

Right after that scene was over, I lost my appetite and took my plate to the kitchen. I went to my parent's room to ask if I could get a Gatorade, my step dad asks "how's the movie?" (With a huge shite eating grin, I might add). I tell him what part I just finished, and he goes " AHHH THAT'S THE BEST PART", then proceeds to walk back to the living room with me, rewind the tape, and made me watch the scene again

For like 2 years after that, if my chest started to hurt from running too hard, or if I got bronchitis, i'd be scared to death. I think I even prayed for God to keep my ribcage and lungs from exploding. Traumatized.

Off on a slight tangent, reading "In Cold Blood" at 10 (what the hell were my parents thinking?) scared me worse than any movie. For weeks - until I finished the book and understood the two were hanged - I couldn't sleep at night, convinced those two were headed to my house after learning I was reading the book. And my parents sure weren't going to help - hell, they let me read the book!

The first Halloween tops my list for movies.

That was a study in degeneracy. I'm a lesser person for watching it.

I watch all my horror after dark, with the lights out and alone or with just the wife so we get the full effect. Most terrifying:

1. Sinister (mainly for the soundtrack and those spooky 8mm movies)

2. The Thing (it looks campy now, but it scared the shite out of me when I saw it first in 1995ish)

3. Silent Hill (the visuals and those nurses)

Your step dad sounds like my dad. His idea of teaching me about electric fences was to take my little 12 year old self out to the garden and telling me to grab a grounding rod and the electric wire at the same time. Only had to teach me once though.

For some reason, watching The Zodiac movie freaks me out more than any horror movie ever has or probably ever will.

It seems mild now but when I saw it as an early teenager, the original Phantasm scared the absolute hell out of me.

It is a beautifully shot and acted (especially for a fairly small budget Indie film) film

You will be ABSOLUTELY AMAZED how much of it you will watch and how it makes you feel not what you expect simply because of how beautiful a movie it is

And it is absolutely sickening to watch but like a horrible wreck you can't look away
