For me it is:
I have to wear pants again and real shoes.
Traffic it's nuts.
New germs so I will get sick.
Parents are just horrific to deal with and their kids never cause trouble (so they say).

We already have strep going around here, so I'm disinfecting and all that good stuff.

I refuse to eat the school food until 2 weeks in so my immune system can build up a defense.

Our school makes the best pizza and Stromboli.

They screw up the calzone though somehow? It must be the dough is different?

I have you topped. Go back and have 2 days long enough you go through policies and procedures and then you have a week or longer off due to flooding

Back in 2008, we were out in September for almost a week because of remnants of Hurricane Ike that hit us all the way in Louisville. No power, worked with generators for a few days. Then turned around in late January 2009 with an ice storm that took us out for another week with around an inch of ice. Just miserable.

The best thing so far has been the school board voted to give us our Thanksgiving Break back. They were not going to give it to us, using Monday-Wednesday as a PD days. Instead of just being Thursday and Friday it is the whole week. They just sent out the revised schedule. I think the School Board may get some extra cases of beverages.

2005 was the worst start of a year I had to endure, in school for 3 days then no school for a month. I never went back, as I had no place to go back to and they eliminated my job in the athletics department, as it was not fiscally necessary.

Quote of the fricking week comes from the Honduran kid mother/aunt/something or other...

I know you know no thing bout (redacted) so I tell you no thing so you can know my thing

Da hell? I felt like I was in an Abbott and Costello skit on speakerphone.

ETA:
This "parent" runs a taqueria by the school though, so I will play nice to get some free food.

Do staff/students still have to make up days missed bc of events such as these? I know when I was in school we had a certain number of inservice days built into the schedule that could be used as make up days, but if the number of days missed exceeded that, we had to lengthen the school year to make those days up. It only happened twice that I remember, but it sucked major arse.

The way our district is set up, we have built in snow days throughout the year to try to cut down on what is tacked on at the end of the year. If these days are not used they're either days completely off for students and staff OR they're professional development days (staff is required to have a certain amount of PD each year). For instance our makeup days this year (and the order in with they're "taken" when a snow day is called): 3/30, 3/31 (two days before Spring Break), 2/27, 3/13, 5/25, 5/26, 5/30, 5/31, 6/1, 6/2, 6/5.

Typically, the students will have days forgiven if they get in excess of 10 snow days and the state approves it. Employees do not and it becomes an extra week after the kids are gone and they usually require you to attend a bunch of worthless professional development sessions to justify you being there.

ETA: The year in question, we had a couple days forgiven but had to makeup 10 snow days. That was before they started building days into the calendar. We went until about the 2nd week of June.

I've never gotten a whole week off for Thanksgiving and I've worked in education for 8 years now.

I'm also sure people have never complained about a non-education job. Ever. GTFO with that weak arse shite.

Well we most likely would not complain as much if parents would raise their kids instead of making us do it. You know try doing what we do for a 9 week stretch and come talk to us after that time. I am not the best out there, I am middle of pack, but I feel I do damn good job. People like you, who like to discuss about all of our breaks, well as I said go to college, get your MAT, take your Praxis series tests, then put up with behavioral and emotionally disturbed kids and their parents, see them for 8 hours a day; which is more than their families do, then deal with your own issues.

Also do you have to buy your own supplies and supplies for your co-workers? I spend about 150-300/semester on supplies. I guess I should not complain because every industry does that also

These are all things you should've known about before choosing to be a teacher. But please keep complaining about having to wear pants again and only getting 10 snow days, it's a great way to gain sympathy.

This statement is pretty much the reason public education is going to shite in this country. The "Oh well, you should've known.." instead of promoting better pay, incentives, etc. so you can hire better teachers and address the problems in the system that are within a teacher's control.

You want to treat a profession like it's not even worth the degree they earn, then you're going to end up with shite for teachers.
