There's a picture I once saw when I was a kid where a cat told me to hang in there. And I did. But this was a couple decades ago, so the cat's probably dead now. I'm still hanging in there, but starting to question why I'm taking advice from a dead cat.

Well, if you don't know whether the cat is dead or alive, it must be both.

I only take pen and notebook to class on the first couple of days, then I take my backpack so I can get on here on my laptop if class is a drag

Oh...you're one of those people, are you? You happy-go-lucky ontological optimists. I'm of the opinion that the cat is neither dead nor alive. Yes, I do like my glass half-empty, thanks for asking.

I remember taking my original Apple Powerbook to class and getting strange looks from everyone. It was a different time. I'm actually kind of jealous that laptops have become so prevalent and acceptable in the modern classroom.

thought of ways to reconcile the connection with the professor which had been lost.

You should get to your professor's office an hour before he gets there and just wait. Do this every day throughout the semester. It shows dedication. Kind of like when John Cusak holds the boombox outside Ione Skye's window in the 1989 romantic classic "Say Anything". When he get's there make sure not to bring up class work or school at all. Keep it casual. Bring him some wrapped up food from the hot bar in the dining hall. This relationship is salvagable my man.
