My hometown of Altenburg, MO has a population of around 300.

It is home to the first Lutheran Seminary west of the Mississippi and Second oldest in the US founded in 1839 by a group of Saxon-German immigrants (my ancestors). It later moved its campus to the current location in St. Louis, MO (Lutheran Curch-Missouri Synod). The original school house still stands and is open as a tourist attraction for all the old Lutherans who care about these things.

Original School House (Shelter was added to protect the original structure)

Also, my little tow is home to the greatest fair in all of the land (East Perry Community Fair), believe it or not it is a very popular destination in Southeast Missouri in late September.

Home of the World Famous Mule Jump (Yes, we are rednecks - Not me of course)

I have no proof, but it is told that we once held the world record for the most beer consumed in a two day period.

Also a couple miles away is this natural wonder located in the Mississippi River

Tower Rock

quote:

Tower Rock is an erosional remnant left as a result of Mississippi River channel shifts. The rock is composed of limestone of the Devonian period formed some 400 million years ago. Surrounding softer rocks were eroded away by the Mississippi River leaving the rock which stands about 60 feet above the average river level.
Tower Rock has been the subject of much historical legend and lore. The first written description of this feature was by Father Jacques Marquette from 1673. William Clark mapped the rock in 1803 during their ascent of the Mississippi to begin the exploration of the Missouri River. At the end of the Civil War the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers proposed clearing rocks from the river at this location to eliminate obstacles to navigation. Upon a recommendation of the Secretary of Interior, then president Ulysses Grant issued an executive order on March 4, 1871 which spared Tower Rock from blasting.

When the river gets low enough you can actually walk across and climb the beast.
That's all I've got.

1) Fred smith was born there
2) the mule train started in my town. (Martin Luther king's march)
3) at one time the world's smallest city block. I don't think that's true anymore
4) the ole miss newspaper called my hometown "the poorest place on earth" in an article 2 years ago

Lexington has lots of mural art. This one of Abe Lincoln was done by internationally known Eduardo Korba of Brazil. The city commissions artists from all over the nation and world to do works of art.

Prattville, Alabama

Prattville was one of the first planned communities in Alabama, modeled after New England communities from which founder Daniel Pratt came. Basing the city on cotton gin manufacturing, Pratt is considered the first industrialist of Alabama. He turned Pratt Cotton Gin into the largest cotton gin manufacturer in the world.

Deep South Paranormal visited Pratt's picturesque cotton mill in 2013 to investigate the story of "The Lady in Black", reportedly the ghost of a mother looking for her child who died from falling down one of the mill's elevator shafts. The paranormal team seemed to catch her on camera, but you'll have to watch the episode for that

In 2008, an F3 tornado ripped through the middle of town near Main Street, but miraculously, nobody was killed.

Prattville is a golf destination as part of the Robert Trent Jones golf trail. It is also home to the state's first Bass Pro Shops. Roman Harper is from Prattville.

Its surprising to read back in history and see how many elevator related deaths there were.
