True, but those were fossils of life existing outside of Earth. All that shows is that it is possible. That's where the "assuming we are the first life to exist" comes in.

Basically saying that if there's a significant probability that we are not alone, there is also a probability that we are far less advanced/far more advanced

Fwiw, alien life has no bearing on Christianity imo. No mention was made, for or against in the Bible. God made us, animals, angels and demons. I don't see why he couldn't make any other life forms. If He did, there's no reason to think we should have been made to know his purposes if it were so.

I have always said this. Glad someone else agrees with me

My feelings about this parallel the way people view the ability to travel back in time. That if it were possible, why have we had no visitors from the future.

That discussion is another topic, but having seen what humanity is capable of, and has produced thus far, until we receive some sort of transmission or indication of life that is more advanced I must assume we are the most advanced thing out there.

That could be argued in relation to today's society and ancient societies. While some of our technological advances are far superior, there are some feats that were accomplished by our predecessors, that I'd argue very few could do today, and lack the knowledge to accomplish, without machinery.

The Antikythera is one example.

More than 21 centuries ago, a mechanism of fabulous ingenuity was created in Greece, a device capable of indicating exactly how the sky would look for decades to come -- the position of the moon and sun, lunar phases and even eclipses. But this incredible invention would be drowned in the sea and its secret forgotten for two thousand years.

I can respect that.

I'm shite when it comes to discussing the S/T Continuum. I don't really get how time is something material and how there could be a future time (so to speak)... Like you said another topic for another day

The Antikythera

One of the reasons I sorta believe that we have had ET influence in our past.

One thing I cant get my mind around is the vast knowledge of the cosmos that ancient people had when they didnt have telescopes n shite. They had an understanding of astronomy is incredible when all they could do is look up and write down

They didn't have the internet to distract them.

There's no telling the advancements man made in ancient times though. Hell, indoor plumbing and water brought in from hundreds (The aquaduct, with it's amazing measurements and drop to deliver) of miles in Rome was 2000 years ago. Take modern man, instantly strip him of modern machines, calculators, etc.. we wouldn't compare to the knowledge they possessed then. Technology, has dumbed us down a great deal. And advanced society is easier to be lost, than one that is not.

I'm a hardcore Christian, but I don't believe the earth was created a few thousand years ago.

Could be intelligent life on other planets in the universe. For me, that doesn't present a problem. I do see it presenting a problem for those scientists who believe life somehow spontaneously arose from non-living matter and evolved, by random accidents, into more and more complex entities.

As to the question of aliens, I believe the UFO/ET thing is inter-dimensional activity, not visitation by entities from other places in the universe.

An argument can be made that there isn't intelligent life on THIS planet.

the fact that we haven't had any visitors means no other civilization could be that more advanced than us.. i think that makes sense

I hope we don't burn all our resources to get warp or whatever it is we end up with technologically and then get out into the stars and realize the earth was the bees knees too bad we fricked her up.

Then travel the universe looking for resources to sustain ourselves and possibly replenish Earth... This may cost the indigenous people their lives but it's a worthy cause

Now we are the aliens

Of course their are aliens, We actually had a firefight with them in Dulce,NM in 1979, where 66 Americans were killed.

Ok, The story is they were sinking four shafts into the mountain to build an underground facility similar to Norad. One of the shafts blew into an open void with noxious odors and black smoke coming out. The next morning a group of soldiers and geologists were lowered into the shaft. The cavern they had inadvertently blasted into was crawling with aliens and in the resultant firefight only three Americans made it out. Only one of which survived with serious injuries.
