bullshite dude. Late Mid-late 90's I saw plenty of guys get pushed out of work in the construction business. Got to know an illegal painter, guy flat out told me he was here to work 10 years and go back home and live like a king and most of the guys he knew were doing the same

I work in the construction industry, 95% of Americans (white or black) are ridiculously lazy. If an illegal came in and took the job of a "hard working" American then the American either was dumb, lazy or just sorry at his job. Why would an employer replace a guy that has been loyal to him and works hard with another guy unless he is unhappy with something?

You know what's going to happen... pregnant illegals hopping the border to have their kids here so they aren't obligated to be deported. Obama just lowered the caution flag for Mexico and Central America. That "surge" that opened the floodgates last year was based on the promise Obama would do this and now that he has, they'll speed off here like rats getting off a sinking ship only to burden ours.

Hell yea. Send them all packing. We all suffer from our parents mistakes at some point.

I also work in the construction industry, maybe all you have ever worked around are illegals that have not been here very long. The ones I know that have been here a while are not busting their arse at all. As for the reason the American workers got replaced, it was speed. Back in the late 90's early 2000's business was booming and speed became a factor for builders.Illegals would do the job for around the same price but had 2-3 times the workers on the job.It had nothing to do with Americans being lazy or stupid, it was all about illegals willing to work cheaper as individuals because they would all pile into one van and most likely lived under one roof.Making 10 times what they could at home (Mexico in this case) and 15 guys living in a single wide, it's hard to compete with those guys

The number of American born employed adults has not increased since 2000, while the number if American born adults has risen.

This isn't just illegals. Obama has greatly expanded the number of skilled worker visas, meaning more competition for graduate jobs.

You're an idiot if you support this. All this is doing is adding more people to compete for YOUR job. People willing to work for less than you. This is why wages have flatlined in the last 20 years.

Sama here, especially blue collar sectors in small businesses. They were either forced out of job or took a significant pay cut. I've seen it in first hand. They were hard working people too.

Agreed. Corporations and small businesses would love it though. But more thrifty lifestyle for working class due to stagnant wages. Obama is turning US into a thrid world country.

Everybody that has entered this country illegally has broken the law. They should be deported since they're criminals. Obama said criminals can't stay here.

This! If you came to America illegally get the frick out! Then re-apply legally and we will welcome you.

Anyone that supports those that are breaking America's federal laws are clueless fools.

He should have tried to get the republicans to distance themselves from their neo-con supporters and passed this in Congress. Bribing them with the idea of being known as the Congress that regained republican support from some in the minority community might have helped do the trick.

The problem with that is getting the republican House on borad. Many memebers are from districts that don't have large minority, hispanic, or illegals....there is no upsiide for them to support it.

The downside to gerrymandering. In 25 years when hispanics are the majority in this country(I'm not kidding) their strategic dilution will backfire. If the Republican Party doesn't do everything it can to appeal to hispanics in grade school right now, they will lose power for 40 years.

While unfortunate, it's the nature of our economy being the global leader in service and information. The number of jobs illegals have taken is infinitesimal to the amount of jobs technology has taken. We have a secondary labor market only suitable for cash only/under the table expenses. House keeping, farm workers, day labor. These are the overwhelming majority of jobs illegals have. While unfortunate a legal worker will have a much harder time getting in to these professions, the only way they are suitable for the cost of living of our modern society is for the people that currently have them.

bullshite. THe delta of new jobs created since 2008 have gone to non-us born workers.

There is nothing good for anyone who works in the US in the influx of newer cheaper labor.

I work in oil and gas, in South Texas, and most of this work is to US-born. Meaning I haven't seen or heard of it happening at all. I mean this might exist among mom and pop workers, but given DOT requirements, I don't think any illegal would sign up for a job requiring a CDL. I work for a Fortune 100 company, so hiring illegals is just not possible given payroll auditing, but it might happen I just can't say for sure.

Construction? House keeping? Farming? These are not the majority of new jobs created since 2008. I'd love to see some data behind what you're saying, but EVERYTHING I have seen has shown that illegal immigration has drastically regressed since 2008.

This isn't about just illegal immigration though.

I work in Manufacturing, and the amount of workers who come to the US and stay on work visas for college graduate level jobs is increasing. In my own self interest, I am not effected by the illegals coming across, its the addition of 1 million MORE guest worker permits for skilled workers that bothers me.

And to keep on topic (I realize I pivoted with the above post) it isn't just workers. To operate a small service business you don't have to jump through all the hoops as you do to work for a fortune 500 company. My family used to run a small carpet cleaning business, but around 2007 we basically had to close up shop because all our jobs were getting underbid by illegals working out of a minivan or single truck with no business license or requirements on workers comp, etc.

I think I understand the types of jobs that illegals get, and I totally believe your example, I just don't think your claim that since 2008, all the jobs have gone to illegals. In fact, I think the exact opposite is true.
