If they want to reduce drunk driving, they should outlaw alcohol sales at bars and restaurants.

I can drink a fifth of whiskey and blow under a .08. Done it many times. Delta people are the masters at drunk driving

I know a cop who was part of a statewide study where they took people from all parts of the state and gave them alcohol up to a .2 level and had them do a set driving course and record the errors...every person from the delta passed the test with no errors. Blew their mind

I do agree, this is not about safety, it's about revenue.

I think this is a good idea. I don't want to be on the road with anyone who has been drinking. Fines should be extremely high, and penalties for repeat offenses should be greater.

Some red meat for the masses.

Frankly, I'm far more worried about people texting while driving. It's way more dangerous.

Pushing it lower isn't going to do anything but add more DUI cases to a court system that is already over burdened and poorly enforces the BAC that is currently in place.

Support. It's .05 or below pretty much everywhere around the world. Too many drunk drivers are self confident and they 'think' they're okay.

Less than 5 percent of accidents related to alcohol involved a driver who was .08 or less. Meanwhile, over 80% involve a driver who was at least double the legal limit.

The fact of the matter is that the vast majority of people aren't particularly dangerous driving at .08 or less. Meanwhile, there are no punishments in many places for texting while driving (equivalent to driving with a BAC or around .15) and nowhere for eating or putting on makeup while driving.

Not unless you drank it over the course of about 16-20 hours or blew many hours after stopping.

Bingo. I have read the same studies. The vast majority of alcohol related incidents are at double the legal limit and at .08 most people are about as impaired as if they were eating a cheeseburger while driving, talking on the phone, playing with the radio, etc. And far less impaired than someone texting, checking email, or playing with their phone.

The people thinking DUI laws have anything to do with public safety are really extremely clueless.

Personally, I want to see anyone who eats or plays with the radio while driving put in jail. You know, just to be fair and if a life can be saved, it is worth it - like someone already pointed out.

There's just no reason to drink and drive.

There are plenty of reasons
1) To go get some strange
2) To go get some food
3) Its fun

4) To get more booze or drugs

5) To get to DUI court

Lotta badasses up in this thread.

It's really not that complicated. If you choose to drink, choose to take a taxi home or play with fire and either possibly get burned or burn someone else.
