This. I mean holy shite I get awkard af when someone thanks me for my service, but no need to launch into some soliloquy setting them straight on who they should be giving their thanks to
it's the spirit of gratitude that matters. Just move on.

Just worry about how YOU remember your fallen brothers on this day and every day. That is what's important to me personally. Some people dont know how to express their gratitude to the fallen, others may just verbally express their feelings of gratitude by "thanking a living vet". I don't presume to understand what someone is thinking or what their motivation may be, just say thanks or nothing and go about your day.
Why you feel the need to lecture anyone on how they should feel and what they should say is the textbook definition of snowflake.
