Unwinding. Been contemplating an intriguing offer I've had.

Was down in Daphne/Orange Beach last weekend for some continuing ed classes I had to take to keep some certification up. Stayed in Daphne with a friend.

Noticed how relaxed I always am down there and stated how much I loved being on the bay and so close to the beach and how laid back the atmosphere is. They said to me, you... don't work Fridays and Saturdays and I can stay there those days and they will help me get work to get established down there. When there is enough, sell my accounts here and I could move in and pay around 300 a month for a room until I finished getting enough biz to get settled in my own place.

Her place is like 1 minute from Hwy 98 in Daphne. 10 minutes to Spanish Fort, maybe 10 to 15 minutes to Fairhope and about 50 to Gulf Shores.

About 3 minute to my new fave place to eat...

Live entertainment at so many different eating places..

$3 Margarita's...

So many upsides.

The downsides..

Have to find homes for 2 full grown outside dogs, giving up established business I worked 11 yrs at and my propensity to no change. It took 8 yrs to start it after I wanted to. Change is difficult for me. I always thought I'd end up on the Tenn River too and this is the other direction.

Damn conundrums.

Evening OTBers

Sounds like close to a no-brainier Hunter, find a house on the river side in OB with space for dogs, best of both worlds

You'd think. I'm no spring chicken anymore though. Will be 46 this year and starting from scratch again. However, would be selling my accounts and would still have my place here as well, but would likely sell it too.

Seriously, change is really difficult for me. But that I'm saying it out loud is a serious step for me.

The other downside, would be driving 700+ miles every weekend until I got enough business to make the move.

We ate there on our way to orange beach. The food was great and the fair hope beer was outstanding.

46 isn't bad for that community though, it isn't like moving to a big bustling city. You will find that not a lot of people under 40 live out in OB, and the majority are welcoming 60+ twilighters who understand they are retired and moved to a vaca home. My parents have some good friends (both retired school teachers) who live on the riverside and the value is a lot better for the money, they have a Dalmatian and he fishes almost every day right out of his backyard.

We have visited 5 or 6 times and gone to church (mega Methodist church in Daphne) and I could count the number of people under 40 on both my hands.

I've been there several times. Never had anything bad from there. The chick singing that night was a local from Mobile, Sarah Percy. Was really talented. And that's one thing I love about being down there.. so many places always have live entertainment and just so damn laid back. It's nothing like Birmingham. IF, I do make the transition, I'm gonna be a fatass alcoholic.

I think the only snag for me would be giving the dogs up.

That's a hard part. I have a pure Blue Heeler, she's an indoor and deaf. Had her since 6 weeks. She ain't goin anywhere. The other two are half heeler and half great dane. The male no prob. I'd like to keep the female though. She's really good natured, same size as my blue heeler and just looks like a red heeler. I just don't want them to end up being put down and it's hard finding a home for grown outside dogs.

Not bad. I'm smoking a Arturo Fuente Opus X BBMF and enjoying this view of the French Riviera.
