Suit and Tie? I guess the last time I did that for a date was for Dexters on Hollywood (in Homewood, AL in the early 90s).

Damn, that was a looooooooong time ago. I remember our appetizer was $25, my steak being $80, my date's lobster being about the same, the bottle of wine being $50 . . . and marrying my date about a year later.

She is now my ex, living in a different state.

My wife now loves the simple things in life. Ball games, good beer, tacos, ribs at a good BBQ place, Waffle House cheese eggs and crispy bacon, and hole-in-the-wall dives that serve great greasy burgers.

Birmingham has many, many faults but a lack of good places to eat is not among them.

Yea there are a bunch of uninformed trolls in this thread. Birmingham is coming on strong but there have always been plenty of great places to eat there.

New Orleans (thus LA) is the center of the food universe. We've had this discussion before.......

Nice restaurants and Birmingham just dont sound like they go together. Unless is barbecue, fried chicken or McDonalds.

The last 2 times I've been to Hot & Hot the service was embarrassingly bad. Food wasn't as good as it used to be as well.

Highlands is the best restaurant in Bham, and it's not really even close.

You need to try Satterfield's or Daniel George. I like them both better than Highlands.

I've been to Satterfield's and really liked it. Didn't stack up to Highlands to me, but that's based on only one visit compared to 6 or 7 to Highlands. Wife's birthday is coming up so may try Satterfield's again for that.

Haven't tried Daniel George but heard good things. Somehow I always forget about it when considering a nice restaurant.

Then you've obviously have never tried to eat there. Birmingham has become known for their good food and beer recently. Dumbass trolls in this thread.

Bham has an excellent food scene.

Bham is a food city. Tons of excellent places that eat, for any budget.

As far as fine dining:

Highlands Bar & Grill (James Beard nominee again this year)
Hot & Hot Fish Club
Bottega
GainMarco's

" Took the GF there a couple of weeks ago for the snapper throats and Greek potatoes"
========
What a coincidence! I took my snapper there and that led to some throat and greek!

We aren't New Orleans yet, but the food scene here is good. The craft beer scene here is probably better than New Orleans.

I love going to Avondale whenever I'm in Birmingham. Having Saw's next door doesn't hurt.

Ok well I think we're just going to keep the 9:15 reservation and go to Highlands.
