Between 200 and 300 protesters gathered at the scene after the shooting, and conflicts broke out between officers and protesters, Belmar said.

Four people were arrested for assaulting officers, and at least one officer was injured when he tried to get away from some sort of firework device set off on the parking lot, Belmar said.

Protesters also threw some bricks at officers, Belmar said. Police used pepper spray on the crowd but did not use any tear gas, the chief said.

He also said several police cars were damaged, and some protesters brought bags of rocks to the scene.

As to suggestions that the officer should have used a Taser instead of his gun, Belmar said: "Frankly that's unreasonable." The officer also had a body camera issued to him at the start of his shift, but he was not wearing it. The car's dash-camera was not activated.

so there was a gun, it was loaded and the guy pointed it at the cop? Can we just build a high fricking wall around St Louis already and move out all the decent people of any race and let the rest have at it like Escape from NY?

Yeah, the "use a taser" part is hilarious. You can tell they know so much about the effects of electricity on human muscles.

I'd pack up, pull the hell out, and let them deal with their own criminals if that's the kind of response the police are going to get whenever something like this happens.

Before anyone interprets it differently, this guy got what he deserved, pulling a gun on a cop.

Having said that, these cops can't just pack up and pull out unless they completely change their profession. Trust me, any cop that could get a job outside of Berkely would have left long ago. These guys can't get jobs elsewhere as cops or they'd be gone. Berkely is Ferguson on steroids. Ferguson at least had a nice, historic part of town.

I'd be all for that if you include all the a-hole and/or racist cops too. Arm them all to the tooth and let them kill each other off. And before I'm railed about cops, yes, I know a majority are good, just like a majority of the residents are good, but even the City cops recognize there are bad ones. LINK

Yeah, that was one of the stupidest comments. I don't care what the effects are. You pull a gun, you're gonna have a gun (and hopefully multiple guns) pulled on ya.

Just wait. The sounding board on this case will not be the shooting, because everything about this one appears justified. What will be latched onto in this case is the fact that he wasn't wearing his body cam and didn't activate his dash cam. Has absolutely nothing to do with whether or not the shoot was justified, but it will be what they latch onto.

This makes too much fricking sense.

This is usually true. It is not universally true. The repetition of the phrase doesn't make it any more true.

Well he did have his hand up. Might have had a gun in it, but who's to say he wasn't surrendering. Maybe he was just trying hand it to the officer.

That is not the way to do it. That is the way to die. Good job by the officer.
