You havent lived until you've had a dog lick your naked arse mid-thrust.

So my fiancée has decided that she wants to get a dog (female). We live in an apartment and I work a lot in the oil and gas industry so its not like I will be home a whole lot. Any breeds you could suggest that aren't super needy as far as running around a lot etc. Basically a good breed of dog for an apartment. No little yappy frickers though. No Chihuahua or Pomeranian types. I need to keep some of my dignity.

Thanks in advance for the help/suggestions.

What kind of size are you looking to have? There's great breeds of all sizes.

Can be but neither of the ones I've had were mean......protective yes, knew who belonged in and around the house and who didn't, yes.

On the upside I don't have to worry about Jehovah’s Witnesses or people trying to sell me shite

Get a retired greyhound. Very sweet dogs and they need surprisingly little excersize. They are very good apartment dogs and aim to please.

An insane greyhound perhaps? Do you like to go backpacking?

I've got a Great Dane and would highly recommend. I also have a treeing walker coonhound and unless you're really active or have a lot of land, I would definitely not recommend.

ETA: Just read some of your other posts and realize that neither of my dog tidbits help you. The best dog I've ever had is a beagle. Other than those, I don't really care for small dogs. Rottys are great, too.
