It doesn't matter if it was the football team or any other organization that is the primary source of a 100 million dollar revenue stream. If you control or can negatively impact the bottom line, concessions will be made to appease you.
Its one of the down falls of capitalism. African Americans have over a Trillion dollars worth of purchasing power. People will cave and go along with things they don't agree or believe in for the sake of money. Why do you think America, a country founded by religious nut wings is all about gay rights and transgender equality.
Whoever controls the money has true power in a country based on capitalism. Big business runs America and if any issue affects business as usual then concessions will be made.

and yes if there is a black president of the campus(there already has been fyi) nothing will be any different, the same whiny assed campus idiot radicals will still be doing the same stupid crap, the only difference is they won't be running off the president because he's the wrong color.
if the football team is that concerned about race justice they should demand a black HC, and stop practicing(not that anyone would notice) until they get one.

Couldn't give one shite about them "peaceful protesting", they can spend the rest of their life doing that if they want, it's not the football teams place to be concerned with what campus loonbats are doing, maybe if they focused on playing football and practicing they wouldn't suck so bad.
