If no one was charged with a crime, how can the athletic department justify suspending players? If they are guilty, they should face charges. If they are not guilty, they shouldn't be suspended. This middle ground inconsistency is garbage. They either did it or they didn't do it.

Minnesota football players announced Thursday night that they were boycotting all football activities in the wake of the suspensions this week of 10 teammates.

the suspensions resulted from a Title IX investigation conducted by the university into an alleged sexual assault, which was separate from a police investigation into the alleged assault in the early hours of Sept. 2.

No insight here but there are many inappropriate behaviors that aren't criminal.

running a train is tasteless and gay, but unless the players agreed to a set of ethics rules where that type of behavior is mentioned then i don't see how they're suspended.

Kudos for the players sticking together

They are suspending players on sexual assault allegations. The players were never charged with a crime. That does not add up to me. Either charge them or let them play. I'm not defending the players at all. I'm not saying they are guilty or innocent. I'm shocked at the inconsistency of the situation.

I'm 100% with the players on this one.

Potentially a code of conduct issue relative to their scholarships.

If they aren't facing criminal charges, then how can someone claim code of conduct violations based on this specific incident?

Which would be...? If it was just something like underage drinking, the rest of the team wouldn't be boycotting. I doubt there's something in the code of conduct that limits you to how many people you can have sex with.

They can suspend them if they think their personal behavior is a poor representation of the university. And I bet a lot of Minnesotans think it is.

And why isn't the girl suspended?

That's a slippery slope if what they did isn't explicitly against the rules.

And that's how you get boycotts

They aren't kicked out of school are they? They just cannot wear the Jersey and represent the school publicly.

I'm not taking sides. People said how can they do this. I merely stated that it wasn't a legal issue for the team.

Wrong. It has been recommended that some of them be expelled, and the rest to be suspended for a year.

If their actions is an expellable offense, then the University is within their rights to sit them. If the rest don't agree, their is a way to handle that without breaking their contract to play for the University. If they boycott, they should face financial scholarships reductions. frick all this millennial b.s. of pouting because they can't get their way. Don't wanna play? Then pay your way.

Every fricking time anyone stands up for themselves it's "frick this millenial bullshite"
What did they get charged with? Why should they be suspended?

Embarrassing the school? I don't know specifics but evidently the school thinks they can suspend them. So... boycott away.
