Welcome to the great state of Texas where we learn about sex on the streets and from porn like you are supposed to.

medically accurate information on abstinence

What can this be other than the fact that it is the only way to guarantee avoiding both pregnancy and STDs?

I would think it refers to the fact that it is perfectly legal in many states to give inaccurate information on abstinence vs. other contraceptive methods. I've read of children being taught that condoms are horribly unreliable instead of being 82% (for typical usage) to 98% (for correct usage with no breakage) reliable.

I'm not anti-abstinence, by any means, I think it's a good idea in theory. I have a problem when young adults aren't taught how their own bodies work, or when they're given purposefully inaccurate information in order to push a specific agenda.

I'll fall in my sword and set up the next 3 pages.

I think abstinence is an excellent way to teach sex ed and proves 100% successful.

Bring it whores.

Agreed, but it should be supplemented with additional education on contraception, STD's, pregnancy, etc.

People like to bang, and are going to bang. Give them the tools to protect themselves when they do decide to bang.

Abstinence does, but abstinence-only focused sex ed is not 100%. I think you meant the former, but that sentence is worded odd.

I dunno why anybody gets worked up about this. Old fart here never took any sex ed classes and never had a baby I didn't want. Imagine that. I was pretty sure how babies were made. HIV is relatively new, but since Ole Miss already cured AIDS (if you believe Ole Miss fans), that's much less important now.

The reason so many dumbass teenagers have unwanted pregnancies doesn't have a thing to do with their high school curricula.

Oh it was worded perfectly.

For me to troll on.

I agree with your sentiment. When practiced, it's the prefect std/pregnancy preventer. Not preparing our kids for knowledge of their body and what to do to protect themselves and just saying "abstinence" is failing them.

I do take issue with the idea that it is not the best method to teach because kids want to "bang". Teaching delaying self gratification has a world of benefits outside of sex for them.

I was taught abstinence but abstinence didn't know how hot Kate(name changed to protect the identity) looked lying naked in the backseat of my dad's Cutlass. Abstinence didn't know how painfully throbbing my donger was when I saw Kate lying naked in the backseat of my dad's Cutlass. Abstinence didn't know my dad knew these things and gave me a box of condoms just in case abstinence didn't work.

I do think abstinence should be the overall theme of sex ed. It's what I will teach my kids. But I also live in reality and know my kids(including my daughter) will be in a situation where human nature and desire will test their abstinence and I'd rather they know the pitfalls of having sex so as to properly protect themselves.
