I still can't believe North Korea, frickin North Korea, bullied an American Company into not releasing a movie. shite pissed me off and got me interested in learning more about the Supreme Leader behind it all. Turns out like half of North Korea's internet news site is devoted to pictures and stories about him visiting places.

Something about it all just fascinates me. How this pudgy, spoiled manchild goes around to different places and provides "guidance" like he's some kind of god. Here are some of the more interesting/comical ones.

As a fun game try to count how many cigarettes, notepads and scared faces you can find.

Quotes are from the articles.

Visiting a Submarine Unit

quote:

He also showed warm care for the seamen's living conditions, touring barracks, education room and mess hall of the seamen of submarine No. 720 under the unit.
Seeing various raw foods on the kitchen counter, he asked the cooks to serve well the submarine seamen, valued by the Party, with sincerity and posed for a picture with them.

Foodpacking Plant

quote:

Kim Jong Un, First Secretary of the Workers' Party of Korea, First Chairman of the National Defence Commission of the DPRK and Supreme Commander of the Korean People's Army, gave field guidance to the Pyongyang Children's Foodstuff Factory.

Noting that the hostile forces are working hard to prevent the laughter of children from being heard, he underscored the need to boost the production of children's foodstuff so as to show them how the DPRK protects the children's happy life and defends socialism.

Catfish Farm

quote:

Kim Jong Un, First Secretary of the Workers' Party of Korea, First Chairman of the National Defence Commission of the DPRK and Supreme Commander of the Korean People's Army, gave on-site guidance at the May 9 Catfish Farm.

He called for raising a strong wind of bringing about a radical turn in fish farming on the basis of the experience and thus unconditionally and thoroughly carrying out the behest of Kim Jong Il.

Animation Studio

quote:

The DPRK's animation startles the world people for its originality, appeal, high level of depiction and rapid production speed, and its animators advanced into the world animation field from long ago, fully displaying the country's developed cartoon production technology with their distinguished skills, the supreme leader said, calling upon them to turn the DPRK into a leading animation producer of the world with high ambition.

Army Unit

quote:

He underlined the need to intensify the politico-ideological education among the service personnel so that they may be trained as indomitable vanguard fighters strong in faith and will.

After examining the operational plan documents, he indicated tasks and ways which would serve as guidelines for mapping them out to be realistic ones as required by an actual war.

Then he guided a gun-firing drill of commanding officers and company leaders and political instructors of the unit.

Fishery

quote:

"There hangs a strong smell of fishes in the compound of the station," he said, adding: "This is the precious fruition of feelings of loyalty of the officials and employees of the station to the Party as they share the will and intention with the Supreme Commander to provide the servicepersons with fish everyday."

Another Food Plant

quote:

Recalling that production did not stop at the factory even a single day under the special care of Kim Jong Il, Kim Jong Un underscored the need for the factory to keep its production going at a high rate in line with its updating according to the standard set by the Party and thus eternally add brilliance to the exploits Kim Jong Il performed by bringing about a radical turn in the production of essential foodstuff.

Construction Site of Pyongyang International Airport

quote:

“Defects were manifested in the last phase of the construction of the Terminal No. 2 because the designers failed to bear in mind the Party’s idea of architectural beauty that it is the life and soul and core in architecture to preserve the Juche character and national identity”, he said, and went on:

“When we build even a single structure, we should do in such a way as to ensure that our style, our characteristic feature and national identity are preserved. It is necessary to finish the construction of the terminal to be an icon of Songun Korea, the face of the country and the gateway to Pyongyang and properly distribute service network and facilities and build them to be impeccable so that they may provide the best convenience to the passengers”.

Air Force Unit

Orphanage or "Baby home" as they call it

Visiting Athletes
quote:

He noted that the players and coaches proved the validity and vitality of the party’s plan for building a sports powerhouse through the 17th Asian Games and world championships, adding that the news of the victories won at the games instilled confidence in sure victory and optimism into all the service personnel and people and encouraged them to perform unprecedented miracles and innovations at the work sites for building a rich and powerful nation.

I notice the North Koreans have already taken down most of your pictures. Have fun in an internment camp.

He really is a good guy. He makes sweet, gentle love to the dogs before he eats them.

the whole thing is really bizarro. i followed a dude on instagram who lived in north korea and took a lot of beautiful pics of the place, but also some of the weirdness.

really a country that time forgot and the stories of the people who get out are fascinating.

also, it was kinda interesting earlier in the fall he hadn't been seen publicly for a few weeks, so some people thought there was a coup. his trusted advisor and uncle turned up dead soon after.

I liked their previous dictator better. The one that had his uncle killed because he wanted to marry his wife.

I read some rumors that Sony pulling the film had a lot more to do with N Korea having some possible dirt on sony execs from the hacks they threatened to release. No idea if that's true or not or what the dirt is about, but I could see that being a possibility.
