And that's meaningless to most of you youngsters, but to anyone remembering the 1980s and the comics section of newspapers, I give you:

Source - the man himself

Now if Watterson will bring back Calvin & Hobbes, I can die happy.

Forget both of those. Nothing beats the Far Side.

Far side's a different beast. There are no recurring characters, no story line, nothing to bond the reader. It is just a collection of often fantastic one liners.

There's nothing wrong with it at all. Before the days of MS-Outlook, a Farside page-a-day was standard equipment on my desk but people never cared beyond day's joke.

Opus, Bill the Cat, Steve Dallas, Milo Bloom, Michael Binkley, Lola Granola, Hodge Podge, Portney, Rosebud, and Cutter John (along with Calvin, Hobbes, and Suzie Derkins) were friends who's status you paid quarter to check every day way before Facebook made it free.

I credit Bloom County, Far Side, and Calvin and Hobbes for my evolvement as a mildly awkward youth to a class clown with a good sense of humor at a young age.
