"Fair and Balanced"

Stewart doesn't claim to be in the middle. It's no secret he leans left. Plus it's missing the point of the comparison. Stewart is as much a liberal as OReilly is a conservative. Probably why they are on each other's show all the time.

You say that like you think it'd offend me or something.

I don't watch or listen to either of them, just pointing out they don't try to infer something they aren't, unlike Maher and Stewart.

Maher has always been very critical of Muslims. This is nothing new.

For sure.

Hes very objective during his interviews.

You should watch the Chris Matthews interview then. It's exactly what he claims.

When was this interview?

It's a bunch of spin from you though. Everyone knows he's a lefty. Liberals don't claim he's not based (well the libtards might, but they're tards). Conservatives dislike him because he's liberal. It's known and accepted as fact from both sides. Quit trying to act like people think he's some centrist. At least he'll actually point out liberals being ridiculous too.

That's pretty much what his fans are saying in this thread. Just a post below yours, one is saying how he's objective.

eta- heck.. I've stated Rush and OReilly are right sided all the way, am I suddenly now objective and unbiased?

Why do so many people try to take his show so seriously? Damn, just watch and enjoy it.

His fans believe everything he says and uses it for their news source, for the most part. (Not all, but a majority).

He is fair in his interviews. He's got a POV, but he's a fair interviewer.

It's why he gets righties on the show with some frequency, because they get a fair shake even if he disagrees.

These were the only two I could find, and Jon Stewart doesn't claim to be in the middle in either interview.

Perhaps. I haven't watched in ages, so I can't say what he does now on interviews. I just find him unfunny and pompous, like most left leaning types who act as if their liberal ideas are moderate or central. To each their own in their personal tastes in entertainment though.

He was on with Chris Matthews, not on his own show. He was lambasting how Fox was so biased, to which Matthews simply asked if he could admit that MSNBC was left biased. He repeatedly characterized and said they were fair and balanced and in no way like Fox News. Guy couldn't even be a little bit honest.

Fair enough. I can see the pompous at times.

Certainly. My defense of Jon here is simply because I thought the criticism was unfair to what he actually is. I like fairness.

I've got your back on this one. Stewart is funny and actually pretty fair considering he had a known bias.

I agree.

i like Jon and his show.

it doesn't REFLECT my views all that often. But, I do like it and he is funny (entertaining?).

It is a smart show

Stewart always says to get your news from other sources than his show. Although his show is probably a better source of news than Fox, CNN or MSNBC

quote:

FDU political scientist Dan Cassino said the results show “Ideological news sources, like Fox and MSNBC, are really just talking to one audience…. This is solid evidence that if you’re not in that audience, you’re not going to get anything out of watching them.”

quote:

“None of the other news media had effects that depended on ideology,” says the report.

quote:

The largest effect is that of Fox News: all else being equal, someone who watched only Fox News would be expected to answer just 1.04 domestic questions correctly — a figure which is significantly worse than if they had reported watching no media at all.

I've looked and can't find it. Thats unchacteristic of Stewart as he generally lumps CNN, Fox and MSNBC together in the crap column.

In the second interview with Matthews I linked he even asks Matthews why MSNBC has decided to head in the direction Fox did
