The Ottoman muslim imperialists I mean. The whole area was doing fine until the invading armies of the imperialist oppressor Muslims walked in and pretty much started genocide. They made a practice out of going into villages of Christians and ripping infants from their mothers arms, taking them back to Turkey and indoctrinating them. They trained them as soldiers called "jannissaries" and then turned them on their own former people.

Due to forced mass conversions as well as playing one people off another, they basically seperated the Serbs into Serb/Croat division, with a 3rd party of Bosnian Muslims thrown in. The whole area is one ethnic group, but due to the Muslim imperialists, they are still fighting even centuries later.

It's not like the area was peaceful prior to the Turks arrival, though. That area had been a constant warring ground for various "tribes" in the area consisting of Slavic peoples, Huns, Goths, Greeks, Latins, Germans, ect.

The Turks did find a way to make it much, much worse, however.

It's not all the Ottoman's fault, Austria-Hungary played a big part, as well as the Venetians throughout the centuries. I'm ethnically Croatian and my family immigrated here because of forced conscription into the Austro-Hungarian military during the 1800s. What's funny is that if you go further back, my family most likely got there as part of the Venetian controllers who ruled the coastline of the Adriatic.
