I wouldn't want anything on the river here. As much as the Ohio floods, people on the river have to have houses on stilts and with first floors they don't mind flooding 2-3 times a year.
About the only good places along the river have old historic houses (i.e. Farnsley-Moremen Landing) that can't be bought or torn down.

Alabama has our waterways dammed up so much that it's essentially impossible for floods to happen. Our rivers don't "flow" anymore. They're just long, skinny lakes more than anything

And I wouldn't swim in the Ohio either. There is as good a chance you could find Hoffa's body in there as you will the Olympic Gold Medal that Ali threw in it.

People actually go looking for that thing?

It will be my life journey. I shall find it.

I had a parent of one of the kids I work with tell me he was going down there with his metal detector to see if he could find it.
I didn't have the heart to tell him that shite is long gone.

It is most likely sunken under sand by like a mile.
Distancing people so no one else can find it... I'm so clever.

BTW, I had the first half of our 6th grade orientation tonight. I had a parent who came to enroll her two sons (apparently they're pretty good football players the way I understand it). She had just regained custody after seven years because she had been shot in a drive-by ("I wuz jus a inscent bistander") and was "gettin' right with the lord".
Gonna be a fun year.

My sister had a kid with an ankle monitor this year. He had to sit by a plug during class because apparently they have to be charged

What grade does she teach?

Those are always fun. One of mine that had one last year had to come to my office to call his PO everyday to "check in".

Good lord. Why can't these middle schoolers be distracted with normal angsty shite? In 7th grade, I cried sometimes for just stupid reasons

Did your GF dump you?

No But when someone didn't like me and I liked them, I cried (which happened far more times for me than someone breaking up with me)

Yeah but we had some largely well-adjusted parent(s) who took care of us. Seeing some of the parents of some of these kids, it explains a lot.
