There was a thread on the TD OT about actuaries a few weeks ago. Apparently, it's extremely hard to break into that field, and the certifications needed are expensive and very challenging.

hope you're a math wiz, though.

all the actuaries i've met were extremely smart, and frankly, a little weird.

I was always real good with math in high school and college. I'm sure this would be alot more challenging but I think I could do it with enough work.

I've tried insurance (sales) and I didn't like that either

What interests you? Commodities could be an easy next step if you like to get out of the office. The industry would be less political on your end.

From what I've read it can take 4-6 years on average to get fully certified to be an actuary. Most people start taking exams during their undergrad years.

I think you can do the job once you pass the first two tests, albeit with far less (but still pretty good) income.
