Because you have to grease the wheels in those countries. Bribery is a part of their bureaucracy more than anything else. You should see business permit processes in some countries

I hope that money is really used to cure the disease, which is horrible.

Billions have been raised to cure cancer and that has turned into a business unto itself.

^This!

There won't be a cure for ALS within a 100yrs even w/ our technological advances. Cancer awareness has turned into a business, with no medical advances with how many billions donated.

Once the ice water challenge fad blows over, whats next?

ALS is more prevalent than you think. Two weeks ago my gf's uncle died from ALS. Completely debilitates the person. Honestly if a disease was the way I was going out I'd take cancer or aids before ALS.

It is 100% a "look at me" thing by the people doing it but at the same time if it's raising money and awareness it's hard to think it's a bad thing.

We need to figure out more positive ways to capitalize on the ego-centric culture in which we live.

Have any of y'all stopped and thought maybe it isn't a look at me thing, but instead it is a fun thing to take part in while donating?
It's like a mud run or color run 5k. Is it necessary to go through all those fun obstacles in a mud run to donate money to the cause? No. Is it fun? Yes. Is it being fun what draws some people to donate and do the 5k that otherwise wouldn't if it were just a normal 5k? Yes.

Let people have fricking fun, you fricks. It's obviously working as intended. And the reason it's working is because it was geared toward most people, obviously unlike you bunch of fricking whiners, who look for fun things to do and be a part of.

It's fricking fun. Are we having fricking fun now? Good! Now let's go get a ********* snack.

These wouldn't exist without social media. I'll meet you halfway and agree it is a fun, look at me thing. A very good one though.

I'd like to know the percentage of women who facebook / Tweeted partaking in any given Color Run.
