Wish he'd boycott smiling.

I'll preface this by saying the media is being ridiculous about this story.
They aren't wrong. Anyone who's had a job knows the stupid rules, processes, and regulations that come with it. It's stupid that he has to talk to the media, but he's being a petulant child about it. Part of being a professional is sucking it up and doing what's necessary, even if it's pointless.

Doing what is necessary is exactly what he's doing. And not a tiny bit more.
It's necessary, per contractual obligations, to make himself available to the media. It's not necessary to say anything pertinent.

Marshawn Lynch's tired sphinx act masks the hard truth that without the media NFL players would be playing in a parking lot for $8 an hour

You see a lot of fans out there filming Super Bowl practices?
Super bowl pulls what, 120 million viewers? I'm betting less than 120,000 were filming or watched super bowl proactice tape, so yeah, I'm going to stick with my 99% number.

I think a lot of people are missing the point that he is going along with contract and making himself available. To the minimal degree, sure, but Lynch isn't breaking his contract. Therefore, I think it's hilarious that people get so worked up over this. Regardless of the contract, I would still think it's hilarious.

How do you get your sports news?

Marshawn is a jimmy rustler no doubt

The internet for about 99% of it.

I'm glad he's doing it to an extent.
Its so annoying to hear sports media try and create drama out of nothing when people do talk.
I wish he'd come out just really high energy and say some just really vanilla, meaningless bullcrap.

So the Internet just generates news on its own?

I see what you're trying to get at. However, I don't pay a dime for sports news, and if I had to pay for it, I just wouldn't get about 90% of what I currently consume, which isn't a lot.
The journos need the NFL, not the other way around. The NFL existed and was popular with far, far less media exposure (off the field) than they have today. Yes, there may be some intrinsic benefit for the NFL to have player interviews, but it is a lot less important for the NFL than for the journalists who rely on it for a large portion of their writing, which in turn generates them (not the NFL) ad coverage on the internet.

And back then, baseball was the #1 sport.

Point being? You'll have to help with this one.
EDIT: Are you trying to make the leap that the NFL is more popular than baseball because of media exposure?
Baseball has never wanted for media exposure. Like ever.

Do you know how tv rights work? ESPN, Fox, CBS, NBC etc. are all considered "media." They pay the NFL a lot of money not only to broadcast the games, but also for players and coaches to be available to their reporters.
Lynch bucking the media may seem cool to some, but all he's doing is failing to uphold his end of the bargain that the NFL and the media have agreed upon. It's childish.

Incorrect.
He is there. He is speaking. They can't tell him what to say.
His statements are no less insightful than the other vapid soundbites players are giving.
And ironically, the story of him bucking the media is creating more interest than there might otherwise be for his sessions.
Thereforenl, he's actually going above and beyond when it comes to his bargain
