But just like an abusive husband, the US would first beg and plead, but eventually would kill you if you actually left.

I agree they should be able to show it due to freedom of expression, but it honestly wasn't that great of a movie. Very rough around the edges, including the obviously fake baby in one of the scenes.

I haven't seen it, so I'm not commenting on the quality of the film, at all. But this is pretty much in line with most of the criticisms lobbed at Eastwood's directorial work. I've read before that studios love him because his movies are always on time and usually under-budget. Not to say that he takes shortcuts, necessarily, but he has a reputation for filming five takes when another director may do 10, for instance.

Bradley Cooper was excellent in it, but the rest of the movie/cast was lacking. Effects weren't very good. Typical Eastwood directing.

I always get slaughtered for saying this, but would it still be as great a movie if it were about a Canadian/British/Australian soldier?

No matter what you feel about Chris Kyle or the war in general, you do have to realize that it was a fictionalized version, like most movies.

I thought the movie was great at depicting the parallelism within war, which is also why I never understand people that call this "anti-middle eastern propaganda" or "war propaganda". I mean the movie basically softballed it for you with the scene showing the Arab sniper with his wife and kid along with the dialogue between Kyle and his friend that was killed when his friend said "I don't know, I think there's evil everywhere....now let's go kill that mother fricker".

I swear 90% of the people that protest this movie never saw the actual movie. Agree to an extent with your take on the acting, but the country of origin take is kind of pointless. Of course people in America will enjoy it more since its about an American soldier, the story itself is pretty great regardless of natonality but nationalistic pride still exists.

This infuriates me.

As it should. But let's not forget that Michigan has the highest concentration (IIRC) or Muslims in the US. While UMich gets kids from all over, I'd guess that the in-state kids probably know a lot of Muslims and are somewhat sympathetic to Islam in general.

Stanford or Harvard would have done it just because of general asshattery.

Muslims are sensitive, maybe if they didn't act like crazy psychopaths all the time, they wouldn't be criticized as much.

This is America, and if they are offending by any of our customs, including freedom of speech, they can GET THE frick OUT.

I'm not defending UMich's initial stance on this, at all. I agree with you in that there is no universal right to not being offended. People that are pissed off enough to sign petitions and shite to keep something away from campus is just ridiculous.

If you don't like something, either don't buy it, or don't participate. It's not that hard. Let the market work.

They are allowed to say whatever they want. They aren't allowed to tell others that they can't say what they want.
