There's a lot of truth to that. My SF colleagues have told me repeatedly that, when in missions in Africa, the locals prefer to deal with non-black points of contact.

Ironic... my college roommate was from Kenya as well and felt the same way. He was more racist than most southerners I know.

Well an honest discussion about race needs to occur.

Only on fantasy island would this happen. Why? Because the agendas are already set and this would just frick that all up.

I worked in central and west Africa for about 6 months and this is so true. As much as real Africans may hate whitey, they hate black Americans more.

....and he recently told me that true African Americans (ie. people from Africa who have come here for a great education and job opportunity) hate ghetto black Americans because they view them as lazy, racist, uneducated people who promote the victim mindset. He said true African Americans don't hate white America. They realize the opportunity that exists in America is great (the best in the world) if only you work hard to achieve something great. He literally HATES ghetto black America and it's no surprise that all of his friends are either white or other true Africans who also hang out with whites.
What we're witnessing is the result of LBJ's "Great Society" undertaking. In order to cultivate an unbeatable voting bloc, they managed to pretty much destroy black America's future.

It is because of the images they see of black Americans on TV.....that is, when they are fortunate enough to watch a TV. They see two portrayals of American blacks. The professional athletes on our professional football and basketball teams, the musical artists and the actors. The other portrayal is of the inner city blacks rioting and tearing shite up. They never see the majority of rural and suburban blacks who wake up every morning, ring the bell and live a normal American life.

With these portrayals, how could they feel differently? On one hand, they see an elite class of black people who are living the dream. They idolize them just as Americans of all races do. On the other hand, while they themselves are languishing in true poverty, they see blacks tearing shite up while wearing $150 sneakers, walking around with cell phones in one hand while throwing a bottle at police with the other, fat arse women who appear to have eaten more junk food on a day than they have eaten sustenance food in a week, etc.......

They are disgusted with the portrayal of grievances that American inner city blacks protest about as seen on TV. They never see the American blacks on TV (which is the majority of blacks) who portray the American values of hard work and responsibility for ones station in life.

I lived and worked in west Africa for two years.

Would you say that African-Americans should thank God that their ancestors got on the boat? In spite of all that they endured first as slaves, and then in their struggle for civil rights in this country, how would you compare the quality of life for most African-Americans compared to those living in west Africa?

By the way, this usually undermines any point you are trying to make with people. Not saying you aren't being honest but it just doesn't help most of the time.

And on that note, I have only worked with a few Africans in my 45 years. Two were from Nigeria and one from Cote D'Lvoire. They all were employed as line cooks and dishwashers at the time I was a kitchen manager working my way through college.

Every one of them got into a fist fight with an American black co- worker at one point or another. Mustafa ( from Cote D'Lvoire) was the fastest, hardest working dish washer I ever had on staff and he was saving money to open his own dry cleaner store. He hated anybody who did not work as hard as he did. Had to break up a fight between him and a white guy who refused to run clean dishes back to the line. The next fight was between he and Anthony, a black man, over Anthony's laziness.

Both Nigerians, both extremely hard workers in their own right, also got into fights with American blacks. One in the kitchen and one of the back delivery area. I think all three had pre conceived notions of American blacks before they arrived and were a bit quick to lose their shite and mouth off at the first indication of someone giving less than 100%.

What LB Johnson and the Democrats started in the 60s probably can't be reversed...too many generations removed while there's still nothing serious being done to curb the problem. I blame your "majority of blacks" for not stepping up and taking the lead in trying to solve this problem. IMO, they're the only chance for a fix to it.

Agree, that's why I just use "I had an uber driver who..." in lieu of "black friend."

Works great.

Yeah that's a loaded question but the answer is you'd have to ask every black American. The problem is black Americans have no clue what life is like in Africa....you & I do and it's not good. Black Americans (actually all Americans) have no clue what poverty is....go to Lagos Nigeria if you want to see poverty. There's simply no comparison between living in Africa and living in the U.S.......I guess the answer to question #1 is yes they should thank God and their ancestors. I sure as hell know I would.

BTW, where do you work in Africa? I was Nigeria, Cameroon, Central African Republic and a brief time in Chad.

I will say that propaganda works amazingly well... there is no organization out there focused on changing the world's view of Black Americans... should AA's be happy that we are here instead of Africa? I don't think so... Africa was fine until the "Race for Africa" where white folks came to "civilize" the place once again killing and destroying lives for the sake of greed. Discovering land people are already own and spreading deadly diseases and acting like they are there to cure people.

It's sad how this still goes on everyday... the reason why Africa is so underdeveloped is the same reason we have projects and 3rd world looking cities in America. It's by design of a very oppressive people... all whites aren't guilty of these actions but all of the guilty are White. Do you know why we have under served communities in America?

True. That's why I never admit to having black friends.
