Alabama would not fare too well. Our unemployment would skyrocket to around 50%, there'd be riots in the streets.

Be not afraid Spleen. Your government would have the power of Jesus on their side. The grace of Gawd will lead the state to salvation. Hallelujah! Amen!!

Generally speaking people far overestimate the benefits of having a gigantically sized nation.

By having lots of smaller nations we could more accurately reflect the culture and will of the people in these areas and thus most of these states will be perfectly fine.

Did Europe fall into the sea after Rome fell? Nope, it actually exceeded Rome in the following centuries.

We would still have to invade Louisiana, subjugate its people, and force them to learn English. They're not going to get past their historical Frenchness without help.

Louisiana would actually do better than it is now IMO.

We control the mouth of the Mississippi and could charge the rest of the US a shite ton of money to use that port. Basically hold the US hostage for billions.

Also, we have Exxon based here and a massive tourism industry in New Orleans. We would lower the drinking age back to 18, because we didn't want to change it in the first place.

Hell, I think we should do it.

we don't want to.

I think Texas is the most universally hated state. Giant amounts of pollution, no one visits voluntarily, over run with Mexican illegals, and a batshit crazy Christian governor that thinks global warming was invented by Democrats and praying harder will eventually fix the environment.

Austin and the US depending on your oil industry is your only saving grace.

I would band with the SEC states (sans Missouri, Arkansas, South Carolina, and Georgia)

We would control the gulf and oil.

I only let Tenn And Ken in because of booze.

The Bourbon Alliance with Texas would insure Kentucky's survival.

- Missouri has plenty of agriculture to feed our unwashed masses and for export.
- Two major cities for commerce.
- The two largest North American riverways for water power and transportation
- Fort Leonardwood and Whitman AFB to control our ground and air space.
- McDonnell-Douglas and Boeing to make the aircraft.

We good.

If we get to keep our military bases we'd have an Army, Navy and Air Force. Good Ag and beef industries, but need more manufacturing. Also need to legalize drugs and make money off import/export. Would also help with the tourism business. Open trade with Cuba to get into that market. I think we'd do OK.

Mississippi's access to the Gulf trade would actually mean they'd probably be better off than Alabama.

The Yellowhammer State...er..Nation, would have to probably turn itself into a tax haven to tempt as many foreign businesses as possible to come in and set up factories and jobs.

As for American football, it would have enough "national" representation to be an olympic sport and the national teams of Florida, Alabama, Texas, Louisiana and California (maybe Pennsylvania) would be the dominate forces.

College Sports and our Pro sports would probably remain but be now "International" sports, meaning that there'd be nothing against having Canadian or Mexican colleges and franchises join in.

In fact, as nations, each new country would be entitled to start their own domestic leagues in various sports.

As for Soccer. I think California and Texas would be the only countries to be worth a damn as Nations in CONCACAF. Mexico resumes traditional dominance over the region (shudders).

So you're saying nothing would change, then?

How so? I think most of the states would continue trade and do well self governing. Most would become like Lithuania or Belgium or something. Small nations just plodding along.

Terribly. I'd give Alabama 5 years before falling to a theocratic totalitarian dictator

That'd be entertaining though. We've lost all the good dictators in the past decade or so.

Not having a deep water port, and not having an energy source would put you at a severe disadvantage. You would survive at the whim of more fortunate states
