If/when that happens, and if it happens in my lifetime, I'm dead.

If it's a true WWIII, that means that nuclear weapons are being used, and at that point we can presume the Russians, Chinese, or someone else (WILD CARD!) would have the nuclear capability to strike DC. We have to assume that because, without that amount of force, there would be no WWIII.

For these full-scale wars to take place, there needs to be some sort of military parity, where everyone who enters into the war legitimately thinks they can win it. This would mean that either the US would have to weaken tremendously, or someone else would have to rise to be powerful enough to attack us - or both.

That's what I pretty much said earlier more or less -- although it won't happen.

Both of the countries that have the capacity to do damage to us don't have the technology to keep up. I'd say, militarily, China is still a good 20 years behind us. They had trouble landing a rover on the Moon and almost lost contact with it.

The Russians just haven't been the same since having to manage a big boy economy, so the chances of either of them suddenly developing a military to even come close to rivaling ours for a land invasion is not just slim -- I might even say it's impossible.

The only way any of this happens is if America gets some ideas to invade Russia -- which won't happen.

World War 3 just ain't gonna happen, no matter what. They'll even give up proxy wars rather than destroy everything.

WW III doesn't necessarily mean nuclear annihilation.

WW III could be conventional in Europe and Africa with a chance of erupting in Central and South America.

Gotta admit though .... right now things are starting to look very similar to 1912-14.

We're sitting on a powder keg ... all it would take right now is one major international slip-up.

I was watching CCTV today and the Chinese are preparing for war with Japan over those islands.

In the meantime, Japan is militarizing for the first time since WW II.

It's not going to happen. China will threaten and pout, but like I said: They don't want war. They like the economy very much the way it is and don't want to jeopardize it. If they lost a war (and it's very likely they would -- they simply don't have the Naval power to compete with the United States, let alone the entirety of her allies) they would get slammed economically.

For Russia it's different: Their weapons are mostly defensive -- they have compensated for lacking a superior air force by stocking up on antiaircraft weaponry. Their capacity to launch a ground war and maintain their positions is not anything it used to be.

The rest of the world really doesn't want Russia in charge, but I think some countries would be content with China -- the problem is most of those countries don't possess the same power as America's allies regarding actually launching a massive war.

It's just not going to happen, I don't know why everyone has a hard on for World War III but Russia backing down is a big sign of things to come.

You're not going to drag me down to your level in this debate.

We're two wars away from WWIII right now and there is all kind of historical precedent for it happening with what is going-on right now.

Putin has a 95% approval rating in his country right now.

We're so dependent on China that if we were to be EMP blasted at high altitude it would take us three years to gear-up enough just to replace our damaged transformers.

No one would have to invade us, we'd melt from within.

We're so spoiled and weak right now it is pathetic.

Sure, we might have a hardware advantage and who knows ... a good WW might be just what the doctor ordered to reset things. But it would be way uglier than anything prior for the U.S.

Would we win in the long run, be able to go to the aid of our allies? I'm not sure. Winning is a relative term in today's world. Things would change drastically ... there would be a lot of concessions on our part. Borders would be redrawn everywhere.

God help us if the Pakies and Indians start going at one another over water while the Japanese and Chinese start going after one another over those islands.

We're fricked under Obango. The world knows we're weak right now. The Muslim sympathizers are in power and we're paying our enemies to kill is and our allies while at home we're paying people to breed.

We're so fricked and it may be part the point of fixable at this point.

No one is afraid of us anymore and that's why the world is more dangerous right now, for everyone, than it's ever been.

Yeah, that's not what you're going to do.

Is there a written rule somewhere that a conflict must end in world war simply because of historical precedent? If there is, I haven't seen it.

Kim Jong-Un has 100%, do you believe that, too?

It'd be amazing if we had the capacity to do the exact same and at worse intervals -- oh wait, we can do that. It's the same as any other deterrence.

If it happened, which it won't.

We have 13 carriers with three on the way.

The rest of the world has 12.

We would pick up a lot more allies than you can imagine in that kind of conflict. Again, there aren't very many people who want to see a world controlled by Russia/China (especially Russia). I'd say about 80% of the modern countries would be on our side with most of the middle east taking side with Russia.

This does not worry me.

Our military is not.

quote:

God help us if the Pakies and Indians start going at one another over water while the Japanese and Chinese start going after one another over those islands.

I also have quite a bit of faith that the Indians can hold their own against Pakistan and other countries would be hesitant to join in. They're also not going to do anything, because it's a suicide mission otherwise.

You're right, no one drove planes or anything into buildings with the strong president before President Obama.

Thank God for that.

No one is afraid of us? No one wants to fight us right now. Like I said, the technological advantage is sufficient to prevent people from getting any crazy ideas. Russia's "big shot" attitude sure changed a frick ton over a few months, and they've been denying attacks, backing away from separatists publicly and moving forces back and forth from their border.

Really, you can sleep very well tonight. Nothing on a global scale will happen.

I'd rather be vaporized than eat cockroaches and schit in a coffee can in a cave in the Ozarks for the remaining, miserable days of my life.
