How about some Nazi soldiers buried in your backyard?

There is an interesting article in last week's Bloomberg Business Week about the market for Nazi memorabilia.

In the fall of 1944 the Russian army had 350,000 German soldiers cut off in a region of Latvia. 100,000 were killed and buried on the spot.

Now, people are digging up Nazis in their backyard and selling the memorabilia. This area of Latvia is really poor. And the number of people who live there are far outnumbered by buried corpses of Nazi soldiers. According to the article, the only people who live there now are old drunken bums.

Some interesting Nazi memorabilia put up for sale include Herman Goring's sweat stained uniform ($126,000) and Josef Mengele's diary ($245,000).

WWII German army helmets go for $90. Regular soldier dog tags go for $60. SS dog tags sell for several hundred dollars.

Most of the people don't care about desecrating the graves and leave the bones scattered all over the place when they dig up the graves.

Rise of the Nazi-Grave Robbers

The "Oh, shite!" look on this guy's face is because he just pulled the safety lever off a Soviet F-1 hand grenade.

That's weird I had no clue there was a big market for this stuff. I was just randomly thinking this week of buying some nazi memorabilia..they had a ton of cool shite for some reason. It was like their military was a sports franchise or something.

I kinda want to do a room in my house with displays of memorabilia from all countries defeated by the US in major wars and have a large display of American memorabilia from over the years

That's probably an extremely awful idea.

An old man used to live down the road from our childhood farm house. Every now and then he'd help my father and grandpa on the farm and we'd do the same for him. One time after bucking bails he invited us inside for a cold refreshment. We were sitting around shooting the shite when he said, "Would you like to see something interesting?" The old man left the room and came back with pristine Nazi dinner plates, complete with the swastika emblem on the back. They must've been official plates for high ranking Nazis. It was actually pretty amazing to hold a plate that some high ranking Nazi bastard ate off of. frick, for all I know Hitler could've eaten off one of those plates. Then the old man pulled out a hand gun with a Nazi emblem engraved on it. And more and more shite. When he was finished showing us his collection he swore is to secrecy. Said he could get in trouble if people discovered he was in possession of Nazi memoriabilia.

Imagine what his family or auctioneers thought when they went thru his shite after he died. I was too young to realize it then (early 1980s) but we should've attended his estate auction knowing he had what he had.

By no means do I collect or like Nazi history, but it's history nonetheless and Nazi relics are very valuable. Missed opportunity to make some quick cash.

My uncle faught in Pattons division during the Battle of the Buldge then all the way into southern Germany. He had some cool shite as well: big swastika flag, a Lueger with the Nazi embalm on it, and a deaths head ring he took off a dead SS officer.
