I'm not talking about fast food or a restaurant chain place..and by picking up the tab, I mean anonymously. If you have done so, what was the reason? My wife and I will randomly select a family (usually a family with young children or a Senior Citizen couple) every now and then. Last night we picked up the dinner tab for a couple with 2 young kids. Watching the reaction, the surprise on the parents face is cool.

I do it once a year at Christmas time. Somebody did it for my mother when my siblings and I were young, she was working 2 jobs just to barely make ends meet and it meant the world to her.

Now that she has money, she does it all the time.

sounds like a subtle brag. It's great to pick up the tab, but you shouldn't come here and tell us about it.

Maybe. I don't brag about it after I do it in some message board though.

I picked up the tab for a guy once that looked homeless and pathetic. Paid for his meal on my way out the door, got in the car and saw him come out the door of the restaurant madder than a hornet, I guess he was extremely offended that someone would think that he needed a helping hand

Not intended to be a subtle brag at all. If you want to take it that way, then fine.
Just curious about others and their thought process that goes along with doing something like this.

Yes, I have done it a few times. Have also invited a stranger who is sitting alone to join me if they want to.

I've done it. Couple of times. You see so many freshly made Airmen in San Antonio I've bought them and their families severl meals.

Also got a couple of beers for a once corporal before he went cack to Iraq.

Last one I did was for a friend of mine, he's a full bird in the Air Force. Arranged a free meal for he and his family last time he got back.

He just redeployed.

Now therefore, kill every male among the little ones, and kill every woman who has known man intimately. But all the girls who have not known man intimately, spare for yourselves. Numbers 31:17-18

I raise you Matthew 6:2

So when you give to the needy, do not announce it with trumpets, as the hypocrites do in the synagogues and on the streets, to be honored by others. Truly I tell you, they have received their reward in full.

We have a service dog, who became ill in a restaurant and disturbed the meal of the people in the next table, we paid for their meal and the tip. Of course nothing will make up for that but it was the best we could do.
