I finished my degree in Finance at Ole Miss in July and now I'm considering going back to school and getting an Accounting degree.

I don't have the option of attending an actual campus so I have begun looking into online degrees. I'm sure there are some quality programs out there but I'm just curious as to whether or not anybody has any experience with them.

Do they get looked down upon in the professional world? Do you get an equal or similar education to that of actually attending the brick and mortar campus?

I appreciate your input

I know several teachers that have gotten their masters online. But they've all gone through reputable universities to do it. Check with your brick and mortars to see what they offer. I know Western Kentucky has some strictly online BAs and on the degree it doesn't differentiate between a "regular" degree and online.

Do not do University of Phoenix or any of those crazy for profit deals.

Yeah there's no way in hell I'd do that

I'm gonna check with OM Monday but I'm pretty sure they don't offer one online. I think UAB has one that is suppose to be pretty good.

I haven't, but know a few that have. A guy I work with got one from Western Kentucky and it was 100% online. They send you a diploma just like you'd get anywhere (doesn't say online on it).

Something else to look at is some of your community college networks that have programs where you get your associates through them then transfer into a major university to complete your BA or BS. It's a cheaper way to go and some offer all online for this as well.

I have already taken a shite load of courses online...I don't think my degree is going to say anything other than what a normal one says.

Working on my Specialists in Ed. right now through Arky St. online, after earning 2 master's elsewhere & attending all those classes in person, this online stuff is great. They're more of an education-related school like USM, don't know if they offer anything in your field, might be worth a look.

Ask Ole Miss to help you out. They can direct you to a 'real' online university and may even work with you to do a correspondence/online degree through them saving you $$$ and a scam (depending on the school). Since you're a non-traditional student, it's likely they may be able to set it up to where you can do most of your classes correspondence/online and only have to attend once in a while.

Research and choose a quality university if they have it.

Drive to see in person the professor and ask him if there are any differences in school recommendations vs. online. Ask if you perform can you have an equal letter of rec.

Always leave as little to chance in life. Find out in advance from the horses mouth. Email to have in writing and then when you get degree the prof. will honor your request.

Others likely will not get same treatment. Make a habit of going to see or call all your teachers. Differentiate your self from the herd. The professor will appreciate your enthusiasm even if faking. Offer to help with anything they need.

Of course do well. But do not do if not top school. I think Peen State has one.

Good Luck.

Find a quality, highly regarded university that has good reviews with online courses. Take the same research steps as if you were looking for an online MBA program and you should be fine. There's plenty of options out there
