Most beautifully written song ever imo.
I have a hard time not finding a beautiful cover of this one (Jeff Buckley's might be the best though, even though Brandi Carlile's is great too).

Yep. Sounded like he was going voodoo, then said frick it, I'm doing hound dog.
Then he fricked up the old maids giving head part.
The thing about guys like Jimi and SRV, they were in their early to mid twenties doing that shite. Hell, all of the greats were young and making amazing music. No one does that now. No one makes music that blows my mind anymore.
They weren't some old worn out dog, that had been around the block. They were really young guys taking the blues to a different place.
When I was 25 I sucked at everything. I wasn't taking anything to a different place. The older I get, the more amazing all of these guys seem to be.

I can't disagree with you about what those guys were doing with the music then and how it effected us. But to say that 25 YO today aren't doing the same thing today with the music they grew up with, would be wrong. It just doesn't hit us the same way. It's a generational thing. Not right or wrong, just ours and theirs.

Well, it's been roughly 3 generations since those guys.
I was a nineties guy, and those supposed game changers ain't holding up with time.
It's still all about that handful of people. Pretty amazing to me.
That's a generation of music that will stand the test of time like no other.

I can't really think of any bands or musicians that can rival those guys. The 90's had some good music, but nothing really earth shattering, in my mind. The grunge stuff was pretty good, the unplugged Alice in Chains is a favorite of mine.
To be honest, I rarely even listen to the radio, so I wouldn't have a clue on what 2014 music is about.
And don't care.

I've been reflecting on this very topic lately. I don't know what I would list as the greatest song, but I am convinced that the soft rock of the mid and late 70s was the best music produced in my 48 years
Little River Band.
Pablo Cruise.
Marshall Tucker
One of my favorite college bands back then was Mother's Finest. Mother's Finest - Baby Love

Some solid songs in here.
For my 2¢:
Roy Orbison - Running Scared
Townes Van Zandt - Waitin' Around to Die
Texas says your welcome.
