The Year of Living Dangerously (Mel Gibson and Sigourney Weaver but the real star of the movie was Linda Hunt)

Malèna (Monica Bellucci ... trust me, it's worth seeing subtitles and all.)

Another one that is not that old but ...

Layer Cake (Daniel Craig, Tom Hardy, Colm Meany, Sienna Miller and some others I cannot remember ... but it's a really underrated flick)

Hell's Angels (Howard Hughes groundbreaking talkie and still, perhaps, the greatest aviation film ever made. It was originally cut as a silent picture - but Hughes decided to turn it into a talkie mid-stream and the rest is history. LINK)

The Boston Strangler, The Outsider and The Great Houdini (all three Tony Curtis films and all three based on true stories - if you've never seen them, start with The Outsider and then watch The Boston Strangler and The Great Houdini ... he should have won Oscars for all three performances.)

I laughed so hard at spots in that movie back then, when it first came out ... hell, I went to a Halloween party one time in a Hanson Brothers costume.

I had a massive crush on Jennifer Warren back in those days too ... and hell, she's still a good looking woman today, at 75. My sister-in-law and she could be sisters they look so much alike except my SIL has dark hair and green eyes like my wife.

City of God

One of my wife's co-workers is Brazilian and he talks about that movie all the time ... it's like The Godfather of Brazilian movies. He gave my wife a DVD of the movie for Christmas some years ago and whenever he is visiting he always asks for us to play it after dinner ... so I've seen it quite a few times. It is definitely a classic.

If you like City of God you need to rent this Italian movie by the name of "Gomorrah." Italian subtitles so if you do not speak Italian it's no problem ... and when my wife and I watch it we always comment on what a good job they did translating for the subtitles, something foreign films do not always do well. They get both the translation and timing down - which is important. It's well worth watching ... a Martin Scorsese flick. LINK

One of my favorites is Vanishing Point.

I saw it when it first came out while on a family ski trip. I was 15, so I had to be accompanied by my mother to get in. She was... uncomfortable . I loved it. Went home and immediately started searching for lonely mostly straight roads to push my car to the limit on. The movie was probably not a good influence, but I'd see it again with the quickness.

Come out to play-yay.

Cheesy in the extreme, but I loved that one.

Vanishing Point and The Warriors ... you definitely came up through the 70s. Vanishing Point had to be what ... '73 or so? And The Warriors '76 or '77 maybe?

Do you remember, by chance, this movie "The Farmer?". Guy comes home from WWII on a train ... sees thus black guy getting beat up by some rednecks, jumps in smd helps ... they both get their asses beat and thrown off the train.

Later, he makes it home to his Dad's farm only to find it in foreclosure to a crooked bank tied to the mob. Meyhem ensues .... he uses his WWII skills to kill all the bad guys .... mob puts out a hit on him. Surprise ending.

Well, anyways, strange story behind that film and ... you cannot find it anywhere, not on DVD or download or anything .... and the reason is strange.

I used to work in minor league sports, and I can promise you that Slap Shot is terrifyingly accurate of the crap budgets, terrible management, and aloofness of most owners.
