But why do people do acid? I had a roommate do it with a friend. Does it get you high like weed? Is in enjoyable?

If you are a psychedelic novice I would highly, highly suggest eating mushrooms before anything else. Most so-called 'acid' today is in reality the aforementioned NBOME. Most people are impulsive as frick, or ignorant, so they don't do the proper testing to ensure a clean product. Mushrooms, however, are pretty fricking hard to fake.

At small doses, before anything else happens...you begin to grin. You're not sure why, but you smile like a Cheshire Cat. Then, you giggle. Why? Why am I laughing? shite is weird. You lose yourself in the thoughts of why you are laughing. You look at the trees. The leaves...they're...moving? Changing colors? Breathing? What the hell is going on. The universe is fricking crazy. How am I able to think about such things? What is perception? Am I here? Everything is so beautiful.
I could go on, but I hope I made my point.
