Same here. I'm just talking about most of the contemporary churches. You know the ones with the wanna-be hip, clean Helvetica logos and a middle aged dude in hipster glasses, and a grungy looking pop band behind him.

What's wrong w Helvetica? It's a great font.

But yes the churches with hipster pastors and pop bands drive me nuts.

The last time I went to anything church related that wasnt for charity or anything I was shot with a water gun if I couldn't recite scripture. It was one of many negitive interactions I've had with organized religion.

I've never heard that before. Did they just round up people and spray water on them if they couldn't recite a verse?

I go to church every Sunday am & pm. I can't make Wednesday services because of work.

I'm Baptist....so I kind of stick out. There aren't any other Deadheads at my church. I don't always agree with everything my Church does. I do believe in baptist doctrine, just not the implementation sometimes.

Having said all that, I'm not at church to make friends or feel comfortable. I'm there to communicate with God. Hebrews tells us "not to forsake the assembling of ourselves together" so I do feel that the community aspect is important. But it's more of a personal decision to worship for me.

Also, we're still an old school, hymnal singing church. I love that because hymns are awesome and a great tool to teach doctrine.

There is no such thing as a perfect church or perfect people.

When you DWI, you can then enjoy church.

I attend church regularly... In my mid 30s , have a weird work schedule so that hinders it. I try to attend every Sunday if possible... I live in Alabama, but I volunteered at a church in Los Angeles for a couple of years in my early 20s.. Since then I've been a regular..

Very true... Helps me not be judge mental by realizing this... I know I have some pretty screwed up ways about me even though I'm a Christian. I'm not perfect and I don't expect others to be...

Going to church blows. So boring.

I would say I am now agnostic... so church does not make much sense.

No, it was organized of course.. I was invited to go to panama city by a guy I considered to be a friend in 8th grade... He didn't mention the fact that it was a methodist youth group trip.. He said for me to meet him at the Methodist church on the day we were gonna leave.. I should have expected something was up cause we were kinda "new" friends and we hadn't even been to each others houses yet.

Anyway, I get to the church and realize it's a youth group trip... but now with bag in hand I feel pretty inclined to have to go... Get down to PC and we are staying at the local Methodist rent-a-church/hotel.... and after about 30 minutes of being there we are told to go read certain passages from the bible.. I did... then about a hour later I was asked to recite those passages and was hosed with a super-soaker if I couldn't remember them...

He was the youth minister's son... so I'm pretty sure I know who put him up to inviting me.

Here's some other stories...

1. My Mom was loosely raised Methodist (loosely as in they didn't go to church that often, but were religious) and my Dad was raised Church of Christ (like Old School CoC). My dad was abused as a child, lots of beatings and fear of God trying to be put into him... He didn't agree with the Church and it's beliefs... like you're going to hell if you listen to this type of music, or you're going to hell if you dance... etc, etc, etc... He and my Mom get Married and he stops going to church... My Dad's family and the Church blame my mother for the fact he is going to go to Hell... they call the house over and over, come by, etc... to the point they scare my mother into hiding under the porch of a old house on our land. This was before I was born, but it didn't stop there.. they would still call up to a few years after when I stopped going to church with my grandmother at the age of 11 and tell my mother, my sister, and I that we were all going to Hell. However, my grandfather, the Wife and child abuser, was considered an upstanding Christian.

2. The last church organized thing I went to was to help out with the April 2011 tornadoes in Phil Campbell... I thought this was what I should and needed to do for my community... at first it was ok.. until I stayed long enough to see what was really going on... they were just using their donations, charity, and kindness to try to get people to come to their church.. they were at constant competition with the neighboring church, and the people working the "church store" full of donations from all over were stealing stuff meant for victims to take home.

Don't get me wrong.. I don't hate religion.. even organized religion... I just think that it needs to be questioned and put in check regularly.. I think the Christian religion is a good thing in many ways and I try to live my life by things like the Golden Rule... but you won't catch me throwing money in an offering plate, ever.

Organized religion was created by the wealthy many years ago to control the poor and middle class.

Look at the rules of religion and the rules of government. Religious practices were instituted to create order.
