Anyone here work in a field for a number of years before going back to school for something totally unrelated? Taking classes this fall and can't help but feel thank goodness I don't have kids..
It's a scary feeling. I feel good about it in the long run though

Can't tell you how it'll go but changing up your life in big ways will at least make it feel like it's not going by as fast.

I did it as a single parent with full custody of 2 small kids. If I can do it so can you

I'm actually in the middle of it right now and it's proceeding swimmingly. My only advice would be to budget and live within your means (be a lol poor). When I made the decision, I pushed full speed ahead and I definitely do not regret it.
It will certainly be much more lucrative in the long run for me, even though I'm "losing" money right now. I have to put everything in perspective often as I would love to be done now...I don't want the college experience again, I'm too old for that shite.

It will just serve as a reminder of where I've come from..
And where I go back to if I don't work hard enough

That's the spirit! I wasn't sure you had thought it all through.

Yes. Computer Science. Graduated from State in '92. Worked 4 years for a defense contractor. Went to nursing school afterwards. Making a hell of a lot more now with better employment options and career all together.

I applaud your bravery. I want to go back but I just can't bring myself to do it yet.

I went back to school and changed careers. Starting at the bottom again sucked, but I'm on to my 2nd job in 2.5 years in this career and I got a 48% increase in salary.
I was born to be successful. I was successful in my first career, but unhappy. I love the work I do now, and I feel like I made the right decision in changing careers after 4 years of doing something I was miserable at.
I always try to tell myself that life is not race. Try not to compare yourself to others your age, and their accomplishments. A lot of people didn't make it big until they were 40.
I've had a lot of battles with depression the last few years. I hit rock bottom a few times mentally. I feel like the confidence I had in my early 20s is coming back though.

Its awesome. Refocus your life and start anew and you will come out better in the end. Just be prepared to start off at the bottom with the rest of the 23-25 year olds. Good luck

Ahh..
I'm going from construction to computer science
Did you just not like the work environment? Health and Computer related fields are really blowing up and both with higher pay on average than other occupations

I'd be an awful pastor
Show up to the pulpit on Sunday with glazed eyes and tussled hair and smell like the Devils chimney

I'm doing it currently. Got a degree in computer science with a minor in math back in 2001, never used either, and finally got sick of having a lot of doors closed to me in finance because of my lack of a business degree.
Picked up a second bachelor's degree part time and finally said frick it and I'm going back full-time to get my MS in finance and work on passing the level 1 and 2 CFA exams during my "year off".
Of course, I'm dreading life as a broke student living on my Grad Plus loan and trying not to dip into my savings.

Start your own church... be the Church of Do Whatever the frick You Want. Then you can mix yourself a big ol' bloody mary or whatever "brunch" drink floats your boat and sip on it during your sermons to ward off the hangover demon.
