Sazerac, though not everyone can make them around here like they do in Louisiana.

My favorite beachy/summer drink is a Hemingway. It is a rum drink with fresh grapefruit juice, lemon juice, and maraschino liqueur. I order mine with salt on the rim. I drink it instead of a margarita when I am in the mood because I am more of a rum fan than tequila.

Another option if you are in more of a whiskey/whisky mood is to order it on the rocks with a splash of water and a lime.

One complaint I have with living in a college town is the abundance of shitty bartenders. So I usually try to keep it simple, gin and tonic.

While this is true, there are very few really good bartenders out there, especially at "decent" restaurants.

I quit drinking Manhattans because it was a pain in the arse to have to explain how to make it or suffer through the abortions that came out if I didn't.

Was wondering what else is out there every bartender knows

Is there a single barkeep in the whole, wide world who doesn't know what a Boilermaker is? Or has that esteemed combination of libations gone the way of steel mills, corner saloons and pussy hair?

Most nicer restaurants these days have decent bartenders that create their own specialty drinks, so I'll usually order one of those that uses bourbon.

If not, just a bourbon on the rocks or some nice wine.

I usually order a bourbon (if they have something I like) or wine to go with my meal.

Sometimes I'll look over the cocktail menu to see if something seasonal or specialty catches my eye.

I went to Azur here in Lexington some time back and got their seasonal grapefruit/Tito's vodka drink that wasn't called a Greyhound but was still pretty good.

Not exactly weak either.

Eh, it's 1 to 1 to 1 of gin, cointreau, and lillet with and abstine rinse. That's pretty tame.

I usually just buttchug a box of Franzia before the restaurant. Works out pretty well for me.
