Anyone who thinks the U.S. and its political elite are serious about combatting terrorism should watch this documentary. The Saudi regime is the world's largest sponsor of Islamic terrorism, yet is our second biggest ally in the region save Israel. Iran and Assad are Quakers compared to the Saudi regime.

Yeah a BBC report came out not too long ago that they were fighting side by side with Al Qaeda I think it was against Iranian back forces. Also not so good on human rights.

But the geopolitical consequences of their oil reserves and opposition to Iran have us on the same side for lack of a better term.

I caught that last night on PBS. Nothing really new to me personally, but eye-opening for most Americans.

We, the US, have aligned ourselves with some very shady elements in the past and I don't see it changing anytime soon with the Sauds.

Unless they run out of oil over night. Then the camel frickers will find themselves alone, very, very alone.

Welcome to things I said a year ago but people went jack shite crazy because they had their head shoved up Fox New's propaganda arse. It's amazing how far this country has come since then, in how it views the world. It still has a long way to go, but it's nice to see some progress.

Meh. House of Saud is to Sunnis what Iran is to Shia. If it is Sunnis vs almost anyone else they will back them. I don't like it but it is part of the regional dynamic.

True

You can insert Shia for Sunni and it still applies

Calling it a regional dynamic is a bit of an understatement. The Sunni, Shia & Kurd ideological war is why the rest of the world will never be able to solve the problems in the ME; we don't understand them and will never convince any of the 3 to like or tolerate the others.

The Saudis have done a great job of buying our politicians.

I kind of reminds me of the way the Russians look at Slavic peoples. They won't hesitate to treat them like shite but if somebody else tries to......

Not sure it's the same. If someone bombed Saudi Arabia, Iran would celebrate and vice versa.

Pbs and npr are without a doubt, the best news outlets in America. Old school with how they cover a topic, not sensationalist bullshite like the networks.

Although they lean left, they are undoubtedly the most balanced and informative news outlets in America.

The US has launched many missiles that ended up detonating in Saudi Arabia... During the 1992 Gulf War alone the number is believed to be in the hundreds.

I'd add the BBC to that list.
