My father in law is cool as shite. I actually get along with him better than my wife does.
Her parents played favorites with her and her younger brother growing up and he was their favorite, so it's kind of a sad/strained relationship that they have.
But yeah her dad's pretty cool. He was ok with me yelling at his daughter when she first joined the Corps (I was one of her drill sergeants, basically ), and then ok with me turning around and asking her hand in marriage, so I have no complaints

But not as important as the 1 on 1 relationship you have with your girl.
You treat her right and love each other, there's nothing for her dad or anyone to say. It's not his relationship. He'll either come around, or he won't. Can't let that even be a modicum of a factor in your decision to be together.
Put it this way: I asked Aggiebelle's dad for her hand in marriage as a courtesy. I was gonna marry her either way.
