Researchers at Oregon State have patented a new strain of seaweed that tastes like bacon when it's cooked.

The seaweed, a form of red marine algae, looks like translucent red lettuce. It also has twice the nutritional value of kale and grows very quickly. Did we mention it tastes like bacon?

According to Oregon State researcher Chris Langdon, his team started growing the new strain while trying to find a good food source for edible sea snails, or abalone, a very popular food in many parts of Asia. The strain is a new type of red algae that normally grows along the Pacific and Atlantic coastlines.

If it identifies as bacon, who are we to say it's not?

0 possibility that this is both real and sustainable. frick the vegan and vegetarian community, I would lose 100 pounds eating nothing but Facon seaweed.

I get my pork from a nearby pig farmer (among other things), and have someone process it for me. This shite might taste like nasty-balls bacon from the grocery store, but well-fed and raised pork belly is modern ambrosia. frick these herbivores, I'm a goddamn human.

I doubt it tastes like bacon. That's ridiculous. Sounds like a marketing ploy.

I wonder if the vegan libs would throw a fit if taking enough of it out of the ocean harmed the coast's ecosystem.

I would try it for the sake of saying I tried seaweed that allegedly tastes like bacon, which I seriously doubt.
