Reading the post in this thread it seems that at least the OTB posters have to decided for themselves that this guy is a traitor with no assistance needed from the government

Also, him no longer seeking asylum in Russia may have more to do with Russia telling him to get the frick out than it does with him deciding to leave. None of us knows what really goes on behind the scenes in situations like this but I would imagine there's a lot of political maneuvering and posturing that occurs

If our government was forthright with us, they would have deemed it necessary to inform us that certain information would have to be acquired to stop terrorism...

Instead they went behind the backs of the very citizens they're protecting....

Snowden is a patriot IMO, and we need to start voting all of these fools out of office that went along with this....

Personally, I've got nothing to hide, but I don't like being Big-Brothered either....they need to quit fricking spying on us, bottomline. I don't trust a government like that...doesn't sound like "WE THE PEOPLE" to me

That's exactly what I was thinking.

He either doesn't have, or won't share, what they want.

I doubt we will ever know but if he didn't have what they wanted then i would lean to him just knowing about the domestic spying program which im sure russia doesn't care about.

That's probably the case, but let me also suggest that keeping him does Putin no good long term. Yes, he was able to laugh at America for a week but Russia has to figure he's more trouble than he's worth when they have to wheel and deal with America.

Better to pawn him off on a smaller fish.

If China and Russia don't want him, going to Switzerland or Sweden might actually be a good idea. He'd be gambling, but if he can convince them that he is basically a political refugee they might let him stay. If he went somewhere like Venezuela or Ecuador he'd be dead in a week.

To me he is no more a traitor than any congressman who voted for the Patriot Act. But I'm kind of fringe.... Hi NSA.

If you didn't think he was a traitor before this then you out yo mind.

Even though it is was wrong for the gov't to do that intrusive shite, you don't go squealing to other damn countries about it and reveal "secrets."

Frickin pussy is what he is.

The first question is would they accept him to even come?

If they do let him in, it would probably be a gamble worth taking. That leak yesterday about the NSA spying on EU nations wasn't by accident. There may be enough political upsetness somewhere in the EU for one of them to take him in.

Maybe, maybe not. Those wouldn't be high on my list of flee nations though.

If china or Russia wont have him then he might as well kill himself because those are the only two countries that have a legit shot at protecting him because i dont think our gov would really get into a stand off or risk some behind enemy lines operation for snowden.

i dont think he is worried about wheeling and dealing with anyone

even if switzerland or sweden accepted him id feel like we would send some kind of gov agents in to handle him.

same with any other country other than china and russia.

that is of course if they aren't using snowden as a distraction to get heat off the other scandals/ a reason to tighten the patriot act even more.

I think if it had been different information, like about military advances, Russia and other countries would be all over it. I assume that part of the problem here is that if he starts living there, they probably think he will find something to cause trouble for them as well. I would think the last thing they want is an idealogue who is willing to go rogue to expose the injustices of over-reaching governments or the limitations they impose on privacy or personal freedom.

I think allowing him in would be in line with their politics. Whether or not they let him stay is a different story.

Probably. Going to a 3rd world shite hole would just speed up the process though.
