And those of us with backgrounds in CBRN defense really don't like potential epidemics.

Okay.

Has there been an outbreak in ANY major city (including in Africa) since the disease was first classified in the late 70's?

The answer is NO.

Poor, uneducated, third world area only. Given even Third World major city level sanitation, decontamination, and quarantine practices and this is not an "epidemic" candidate.

Relax.....or worry

either one is fine. But, it is not some sinister thing we can't contain.

Wasn't there a University of Texas professor calling for air borne ebola?

Prof. Pianka has a radical if pragmatic view of humanity. It actually isn't that different from my own. I think 2 billion humans is the ideal population for the earth.

When the population passed the 5 billion mark, the only way that our numbers can be reduced is via some calamity, either natural or man-made. A weaponized Ebola strain, or a naturally mutated one that we might be seeing currently, could certainly do the trick. We'll see.

Meh. I live near where at least one of them is being taken and I'm not concerned in the least. Emory has an excellent isolation unit for contagious diseases. The risk of something happening with this is pretty much zero.

As long as we aren't eating monkey and fruit bats, we're good. They straight up tell people in Nigeria that if they are caught buying, selling, or consuming bushmeat, they'll go to jail. They don't care. They straight up don't believe it exists. You know why Ebola has such a high mortality rate? Because it only exists in deepest darkest Africa, where the nearest hospital is 90 miles away, cars don't exist, and you have to travel through rebel infested jungle just to get to a shitty hospital that would look like shite compared to the very worst hospital in America.

I'm not overly worried, but I see no good reason to bring them home now. I read a book about Ebola years ago that scared the absolute crap out of me. The further that stuff stays away, the better.

Yes, they do. So does Emory.

Oh, I dunno. Bringing American citizens home to be treated in a much more favorable environment for their survival?

Well if you wanted something from West Africa to fit in in the US, the ATL would certainly be the place for it.

I'm black. But it doesn't matter, because I'm stating fact. It mainly infects people that live in landlocked African nations with very dense jungles. So calling it deepest darkest Africa is appropriate.

Clayton Bigsby was real
quote:

In Ron Stallworth’s book Black Klansman he speaks out about his experience as a member of a Colorado chapter of the Ku Klux Klan (KKK). How did this African-American man go on to become leader of the KKK? This now-retired cop confessed that he went undercover in 1979 as a KKK member for a period of nine months in order to complete an investigation into the chapter.

Out of everyone they could've chose, the went with the black guy to run the sting operation on the KKK. They'll never suspect a thing.
