Just following storyline if you kill multiple people, it's because mental illness. We have a mental illness problem in this country, need to do something about it.

Yeah. I don't think the Charleston killer was crazy either. Just messed up. But not clinically crazy. Hate-filled and twisted.

I tend to go with if you're down with killing multiple people then you have a mental illness. You can be cognisant of your actions and still be mentally ill.
Sadly people can't separate that someone can have a mental illness but still be personally responsible for their actions. Doesn't mean we shouldn't be having a discussion on whether we could've done something to prevent mass murders from happening.

Unless the media can make some kind of controversy out of it then nobody hears about it and then nobody cares.
People get murdered all the time in this country and there may be a radio or TV 30 second mention then they move on to the weather.
