I hate Dr Oz, but I think he's being attacked for bringing to light natural remedies, not just for weight loss, and it's not making the corporate overlords too happy.

I think that element is in play but overall I see a greedy M.D. leading millions of gullible people to the cash registers of shysters. There are no remedies for obesity that don't involve exercise, eating right and self-discipline.

Dr Oz is a shill, there is no doubt.

But he may be a shill with an occasional conscious, this isn't the first time he's been under attack for sharing things that aren't supported by the science establishment that writes their own critiques.

And I don't think weight loss stuff is exactly why the establishment is mad at him, it's just what is being highlighted. They're upset with his increased focus on natural remedies that don't line the pockets of big corporations.

Please note that I haven't criticized any specific "weight loss remedies." My statement is that no plan will work without including eating right and exercising, both of which require self-discipline.

You've lost 14 pounds? Congratulations, but we're talking about a crowd in which many people need to lose 140 pounds, or even more to be lean, muscular and healthy.

I wouldn't say we are immune to natural selection. I'd say in our case that it works a bit slower than with other animals. Make no mistake: one day it will kick in gear (overpopulation) and the net effect will be at least the same as if natural selection had been happening normally all this time.

Regardless, there are dozens of diseases which persist entirely because we have the means to keeps their victims alive long enough ti reproduce.

In species which humans make no attempt to breed and control, things like cystic fibrosis and muscular dystrophy dont stick around long.

He's being attacked because his natural remedies are largely bunk.

Yes, there are natural supplements and herbs which can be beneficial for certain conditions. The vast majority are garbage though and, in some cases, are actually harmful. Every year, tens of thousands of people end up in ERs due to supplements and diet fads.

Last year Americans spent $34 billion on Complementary and Alternative Medicine, including "natural remedies." There are some pretty big corporations in that genre of medicine, though critics, including me, are loathe to use that term in describing them.

Yeah, ST should probably take look at NatureMade's profit margin before bitching about the suppression of supplements
