A man with no decent single malt scotches in his liquor cabinet is a man who takes it up the arse and likes it but tries to make everyone think he is special because he is a bourbon sipper.

All you need do is add maybe three mid-shelf and one top shelf single malt to that cabinet of yours and you could be taken off of homo status.

I'm not all that big on tequila but a decent one I have on hand that I have seen plenty of places is Espolon silver, squat circular bottle (I have only found it in fifths). Recognizable in that it has a skeleton riding a chicken on the label, may or may not be what got me to get it.

Great selection btw, did you semi order it with respect to your preferences? I am always curious to try new things. Can't for the life of me find Blanton's.

Scotches I've tried:

Macallan 12
The Glenlivet 12
Glenfiddich 12
Laphroag 10
Johnnie Walker Black

I think that's it. I wouldn't turn any of them down, I just like Bourbon a lot better. And add to it the fact that Bourbon is generally cheaper and that's why you see precious few Scotch in my cabinet.

To me Scotch is all stewed fruit, prunes, apricot and other things I'm not particularly fond of. Bourbon is simply a better whiskey in my opinion.

I actually like Irish Whiskey (like Jameson's and Bushmills) more than Scotch.

But again - I have no objection to those that enjoy Scotch more, it's just I'm not one of them.

My selection is based simply on trying new things and keeping what I like. I am fortunate in that Tallahassee, Florida, has possibly the best liquor store on the planet for Bourbon outside Kentucky. Market Square literally has the best selection of personally selected Bourbon in the U.S. Plus they carry just about everything else in the Scotch, Irish and Canadian whiskey/whisky categories.

They have gallons of Blanton's, much of it employee selected. Great stuff. Right now the only thing they don't seem to have is Elmer T. Lee and they will certainly get a shipment in soon.

So, since I have such a good liquor store in town, I like to experiment and try a wide selection of Bourbon, both the higher priced like Blanton's, and the bargain variety like Old Crow Reserve.

The MacAllan 12 is my go-to every-day scotch. You cannot go wrong with that. If you want to go top shelf The MacAllan try the 25 yr old Highland Single Malt. It's incredible and will rival any bourbon out there and then some.

For big parties, I like to have a couple of cases of McClelland's on hand. I prefer the Highland, but I know a lot of people like the Speyside and Islay as well ... something well-worth adding to your cabinet for friends that come over that are scotch drinkers.

Back to bourbons, we serve a case per home game of Maker's Mark at the Cockaboose, Maker's Mark and Fighting Cock, because so many people coke or ginger ale their bourbons for ball games.

I keep the good stuff stashes away in another cabinet. People bring me all kinds of good liquor to the games ... I have my own private stash from Gentleman Jack to Blanton's to Weller to ... well, last year alone I was given a bottle of Elijah Craig 21 by a UT fan friend of mine who was a guest at the Cockaboose. I got a bottle of Jefferson 21 from a friend in California who came-out for a game this past season. Now, the same buddy owns a distributorship in Vegas and two or three seasons ago he brought me some Pappy Van Winkle 20 yr old and some really good cigars. I think I posted pics of us drinking that from the top of the Condo just behind our Cockaboose overlooking the stadium that night .... that may have been one of the best bottles of bourbon I have ever tasted. I've had several people bring me Woodford's ... I'm always happy to get it and usually bring it home with me.

I really like your bourbon selection ... you gotta get a few bottles of scotch in there and a couple of bottles of Petron Anejo along with a decent midshelf vodka or two and you're golden.

Uh, I respect your choices highly. And of all the Scotch I've tried - Macallan 12 is my favorite. I need to bite the bullet and buy a bottle of the 25.

Anyway, I want to party with you (no homo).

Thats not a liquor cabinet. thats a liquor store.

I was in Total Wine today perusing the bourbons thinking of this very board and the recent discussion and did not see this selection!
