Since Verizon decided to charge $20/line on grandfathered unlimited data plans, we will be moving to a different carrier. I've had Verizon for 12 years and have never looked elsewhere. Anyone stand out above the rest?

I have AT&T (personal phone) and Verizon (company phone) and AT&T by a long shot.

I hope this doesn't set a precedent for other carriers to follow suit.
I have AT&T and I'm grandfathered in on "unlimited" data but get throttled back if I go over 4GB.

In the south the best network is AT&T. Cricket is a good deal if you buy a cheap phone out of contract, it uses the AT&T network.

Have had Verizon since I got married 4 years ago, but planning to switch back to AT&T next year.
I get a discount through my company and AT&T has better customer service than Verizon, IMO.

Go to root metrics and see how the coverage is in the area you will be using your phone. Only way to even consider a cell phone provider. Absolutely stupid to go with a carrier without first seeing what kind of speeds you will get where ever you will mostly need service.

Appreciate the responses. I think AT&T seems like the best option. We almost switched back when they were getting rid of unlimited data before they started grandfathering people.
I travel too much to know what I'd need. Where we live, any of the bigger providers have great coverage. I did go look at it though, and AT&T looks solid. Thanks for the suggestion.

If you travel much, I think I would stick with Verizon.

Phones aren't allowed in most places that I work. Verizon is definitely off the table.

The only carrier you should consider down there especially if you plan on doing anything further south for recreational purposes is AT&T. Nobody else gets any kind of a signal down there.

i'll go against the grain and say that i like sprint fine and they have never done anything to make we want to leave.
i pay less than anybody i know, i never have trouble in 90% of the places i go and then of the 10% that i do, most others do as well.

Sprint does really well here, and is, as you say, much cheaper. They had a promo that ended last month where if you had DirecTV they'd give you a year's worth of service for free so my wife signed up. We bought a Galaxy SIII outright for $99 and now pay $7 in taxes per month for unlimited everything Should work for a year at least.
If you weren't tied to data and wanted something that you could save a ton of money on, I would suggest Republic Wireless. That's what I have, and it leverages wifi networks. I paid $180 for a phone on ebay that's fine (original Moto X), but my bill (granted, doesn't include any data) is $10/month. Just some huge savings out there if you're willing to compromise. Great cell service, but if you use a lot of cellular data they're not the best option out there.
