Pretty much anything you put in your body outside of water can cause problems if researched enough. And sometimes even water can. Just ask people that live in areas where fracking is going on.

fwiw it depends on when you smoke. Smoking at 9:00 at night 4 days a week shouldn't effect your work and motivation.
